If I'm doing my math right, Apple could give all 30,000 retail employees a 100% raise (+$25,000) and it would only cost them 3 * 10^4 * 2.5 * 10^4 = 7.5 * 10^8 = $750 million, or about 1% of their liquid cash assets, or 1/40th of their yearly earnings. I know countless apologists are going to come out of the woodwork to explain this, they're just paying market rates for retail, yadda yadda.

Still, no matter how you slice it, it looks bad when a company is making extraordinary profits and all the benefits are accruing to the top. I don't know what fraction of sales account for online vs instore, but surely, some of Apple's success can trickle down to pay above market rates?

This is a symptom over all of the current economy. Some companies doing extraordinary well, sitting on tens of billions of dollars of unspent cash, and benefits not trickling down to the middle class, yet politicians argue if you'd just cut taxes more, they'd let loose the purse strings, when the most likely things seem to be stock buybacks and dividends which accrue to wall street and people who hold net wealth.
