LinkedIn Says [Eff] Your Share Counts

Another Social Media network decides they don’t care about your social proof. LinkedIn says “bye bye” to share counts. And I think I now understand why.

You see, now that people are using 3rd party plugins (like Social Warfare) to power their share buttons, these social networks no longer get to siphon data from your sites. No siphoned data means they can't use or sell anything to justify the cost of supporting the share count API.

So, as with anything, it comes down to the business bottom line.

I can't blame them. But I don't have to like it either.
