Does Islam Encourage War?

Does Islam command its followers to wage war against unbelievers or kill them without provocation? This is a popular misconception among Westerners, and the statements of a few radicals in the Muslim world don't help in ending this faults idea in people's minds. In fact, Islam forbids the taking of any human life except for a Just Cause under law, that is capital punishment for convicted murderers, fighting in war time, or self defense . The Quran has this to say about taking a life:

"........ Do not take a life which God has made sacred except by the way if justice and law: thus does He commands you that you may learn wisdom." Qur'an 6:151

The Quran never says to fight and kill people who are not believers, although one of its verses, which is often quoted out of context does say "to fight the unbelievers wherever you find them." however, this command was revealed when a state of war existed between the first Muslim community and they're stronger opponents, the idol worshippers of Mecca. The command was directing the Muslims not to run away from a fight with opressors but instead go headlong into battle with the people who have been attacking them without mercy for so long. Here are the Qur'anic verses that command Muslims to fight:

"Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight you, but do NOT be the aggressor, because Allah does not approve of aggression. Fight them whatever they are found, and drive them out from were they drove you out, because being oppressed is worse than being slaughtered........ But if they cease being hostile, remember that Allah is the forgiving, the source of all Mercy. But if they continue to oppress then battle them until oppression is no more and justice in faith in Allah prevails. If they seek peace, you seek it as well, but continue to pursue the evil-doers." (Qur'an 2:191 -194).....

"Liberty or death".... that rally cry sounds very familiar..
Stay tuned for more.

But the [ gentile ] woman came and did Jesus homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”

Why would the very symbol of love and acceptance call a gentile women a dog?

There is a level of interpretation that emerges once certain words are understood properly.

In scriptures the disbeliever and believers are often portrayed as animals. Believers are often described as lamb, sheep, oxen. Disbelievers are described as dogs, wolfs, birds, basically predictors.

A very important symbol here is food. In scripture food is sometimes used to refer to scripture as it is our spiritual food.

Matt. 26:28, "for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins."
John 6:52-53, "The Jews therefore began to argue with one another, saying, How can this man give us His flesh to eat? 53 Jesus therefore said to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.'"
1 Cor. 11:27, " Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord."

"And while they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." 27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. 29 "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom," (Matt. 26:26-29).

These certain words that carry the same meaning throughout other holy scriptures are another proof that they are from the same source.

It is no fault in the blind nor in one born lame, nor in one afflicted with illness, nor in yourselves, that ye should eat in your own houses, or those of your fathers, or your mothers, or your brothers, or your sisters, or your father's brothers or your father's sisters, or your mohter's brothers, or your mother's sisters, or in houses of which the keys are in your possession, or in the house of a sincere friend of yours: there is no blame on you, whether ye eat in company or separately. But if ye enter houses, salute each other - a greeting of blessing and purity as from Allah. Thus does Allah make clear the signs to you: that ye may understand.

The blind dead and dumb are not figuratively blind, deaf or
Dumb, but rather people who are not believers, they do not see, hear or understand the scriptures.

[Baqarah 2:18] Deaf, dumb and blind; and they are not to return.

[Baqarah 2:171] And the example of the disbelievers is similar to one who calls upon one that hears nothing except screaming and yelling; deaf, dumb, blind - so they do not have sense.

So in conclusion Jesus pbuh was saying that the scripture is for the house of Israel and not for the Gentiles while the Quran is stating that it is a book for all of Allah's free willed creation.

So next time you see animals or
Food in scripture see if my interpretation of those words gives you any insight into the scripture.

How Did Muslims Get There? Thank the British!

Besides Lane conquests in missionary efforts, there is another factor responsible for the spread of Islam: the efforts of the British who were looking for a cheap labor supply for the colonial plantations. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the British imported tens of thousands of Muslims from India to South America, South Africa, the Caribbean, and elsewhere. Their descendants have continued to practice Islam. Surname, for example, a small nation just north of Brazil has a population that is over 30 percent Muslim, the rest being Hindu in Christian.

Recently, immigration from Lebanon has resulted in a sizable Muslim population in Argentina. In short Muslims in habit every corner of the globe in their growth has been due to the wide variety of factors. The Muslim Hartland, then, stretches from Morocco to Indonesia in Bosnia down to Tanzania with important fringe populations all over the world.

If it seems that news from the Muslim world is suddenly more prominent and noticeable these days, it's not because in the past Muslims were sleeping or because they previously didn't exist. It's because now each and every Muslim country has suddenly become more valuable to the West. Given the Western dependence on fossil fuels, especially all in gas, in the need to ensure easy access to foreign markets for Western companies, the trends in every Muslim country are watching closely.

The Arab oil embargo in the rise of OPEC in the 70's made people notice: a whole lot more people have a history in values that the West does not fully understand. Other events, such as the Arab/Israeli conflict, the Gulf War, and the shifting balance of power in the Middle East, have confirmed the view that Americans need to know more about what forces drive people who live in those places.
