What causes an A/C system leak?

Age and moisture. Plain and simple. Rubber seals and hoses can also lose their elasticity over time and breakdown allowing Freon to escape and moisture to enter your vehicle’s A/C system. Moisture is the kiss of death for your A/C system, mixing with refrigerant and creating a system destroying corrosive acid.

Quick fact: If moisture is present, it could damage your accumulator, receiver or drier. Remember, these devices are responsible for removing moisture from the A/C system and will eventually stop functioning once they are exposed to an open system (leak or crack). Call Braddock Motors today to schedule an appointment to have your A/C Serviced. We can find the solution you need to get your A/C back to being Ice Cold! How to drive safely in flood conditions?

ALERT: Frederick County in State of Emergency after Flooding! Please be careful driving out on the streets in the Frederick Area. Many spots have been flooded out and will surprise you when behind the wheel. Try to avoid flooded areas and the downtown area. If you must drive here thru flooded roads here are a few tips. Decrease speed and turn on hazard lights. Turn off the AC Unit so the fan will not be damaged. Crack the windows for air circulation. Don't stop in the middle once you have committed as it will damage your engine. As flood water decreases you can speed up carefully. If it shuts down stay calm & call for help. Test brakes are working properly once you are clear of the area and drive safely! Everyone at Braddock Motors wishes everyone to just slow down and be safe! Stay off the roads as much as possible. The picture below was a vehicle recovered from the flooding in downtown Frederick.

Why my car won't start?

This frustrating experience can put a wrench in your day. Over the years, cars have become much more reliable. But with so many moving parts, even the most well maintained vehicles are occasionally temperamental. Assuming you're not a mechanic, let's take a look at the most common situations and how to deal with them. You Turn The Key - Nothing Happens Listen to your car. Even though it has betrayed you by not starting, it's still considerate enough to give you hints as to why. If you turn the key and the engine doesn't crank at all, things may not be all that bad (believe it or not). The problem most likely lies with the battery, especially in cold weather. When your car responds with silence or clicking: • Turn on the car lights. If they're dim, you may have poor battery connections or a dead battery. Did you leave your headlights on last night or leave an interior light on? It happens to the best of us. • Tighten and clean the battery connections and try again. They could just be corroded or loose. This can be done with baking soda, water and an old toothbrush • Jump start the car. If this works, immediately have your battery tested, especially if it's old. Please call us to test your electrical system to and have one of our experienced technicians diagnose it.

Why is my car overheating?

If your car is overheating, it can be very serious. You shouldn't continue to drive if you see the temperature gauge has moved towards the "hot" side. Your car may not immediately explode or anything like that, but driving with an overheating engine can cause serious damage to your vehicle. It's better to pull over and deal with it right away instead of risking very expensive repairs later. There are a number of things that can cause your engine to overheat. Some of these are fairly common issues. It can range from improper circulation, thermostat, hose, radiator, leak to name a few. Braddock Motors is always ready to help. Call right away and we'll discuss your options. You can also use the Book an Appointment button above to schedule with us.

Why is my car ac not cold?

As we approach summer its a great time to start preparing for the heat. We all like our AC Cold on those hot humid days. Here are some of the most common issues why your AC system may not be performing properly.
It Needs Recharging
There's a Freon Leak
The A/C Compressor May Not Engage
The Blend Air Door is stuck
Our advice is to call and schedule an appointment with one of our ASE Certified Technicians to go thru a Diagnostic Test of your AC System. Please Call 301-371-6200

Why is my Exhaust Loud?

A suddenly occurring exhaust noise is often related to a driver hitting something while on the road that causes damage to the exhaust system. Rust can also be a culprit. In the latter instance, a driver can notice the noise getting progressively worse as the problem progresses.

The parts of the exhaust system that can be damaged resulting in a loud noise include:

Auto Exhaust System Tinted Orange
•Manifold
•Pre-catalytic converter
•Front pipe
•Catalytic converter
•Intermediate exhaust pipe
•Front muffler
•Rear exhaust pipe
•Rear muffler

Loud noises caused by damage to any of these parts would require replacement of the part.

The exhaust system is sealed together by the use of exhaust flanges, gaskets and clamps, and it is hung by various mounts and brackets. If some of the brackets or clamps are loose it can result in a rattling noise which can be annoying, though typically not as loud as the noise caused by a hole in the exhaust system. Please Call our ASE Certified technicians to look over your vehicle and ensure it is safe for you at 301-371-6200
