Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day so I thought I'd share something relevant.  This is an interview of Nichelle Nichols who was Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek.  She tells a wonderful story of meeting Dr. Martin Luther King.

Absolutely fascinating topic by a great presenter.  Definitely worth watching.

Nancy Kanwisher:
A neural portrait of the human mind
+TED Talk
Brain imaging pioneer Nancy Kanwisher, who uses fMRI scans to see activity in brain regions (often her own), shares what she and her colleagues have learned: The brain is made up of both highly specialized components and general-purpose "machinery." Another surprise: There's so much left to learn.

This is the BBC documentary about factory workers of Apple products.  I've noticed that whenever someone says anything negative about Apple, there are legions of Apple fanatics that will go out of their way to defend Apple.  I see this same pattern over and over again.  Sadly this is the very reason why Apple can continue to do business as they've always done.

Sometimes, it's hard to be thankful when it feels like the world is an awful place. When your own brain or body works against you. When you're struggling for any of a number of reasons, it's hard to see the good. The degree varies, but everyone struggles with something. When you see the struggles of others and you just cannot fathom how they go on, it's hard to feel grateful without feeling guilt as well.

There are many barriers to feeling thankful today and every day. But with thankfulness comes some glimmer of hope. Some reminder of good. By whispering a silent thanks to yourself just for going on, or a loud thank you to a loved one who stands by you, even an acknowledgment no matter how tiny for something good in your life, that positive spark can build the fire that drives you forward again.

So take a moment today and say thanks for something. Anything. You deserve it.

And at the very least, let me thank you all just for being here and doing what you do. Keep being awesome. Or just keep being.

#thanksgiving

Rosetta is en route to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, where it will make the most detailed study of a comet ever attempted. It will follow the comet on its journey through the inner Solar System, measuring the increase in activity as the icy surface is warmed up by the Sun. The lander will focus on the composition and structure of the comet nucleus material. It will also drill more than 20cm into the subsurface to collect samples for inspection...

A story about adding a stabilizer for a remote controlled plane.

http://story.glass/uav
I am making a brain for my model plane so that it can fly by itself. I could have bought an off-the-shelf kit but I wanted to build it myself to understand how everything works from the ground up. The 'brain' of my plane has a number of key parts, but at its core is an ARM microcontroller.
