This is my go-to spot for all of my baking needs! The quality, price and array of selection are unmatched. I have found spices, flours, grains, extracts, sauces and teas that I have yet to find anywhere else. Plus, the owner is so charming and I always feel very happy strolling through their plentiful bins while listening to the classical music they play on weekday afternoons. I love this place it really is one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor.

a wall of spices, wall of oil/vinegars, aisle of grains/pasta/bread. the list goes on and it's awesome. great stuff at awesomely reasonable prices! FOR EXAMPLE: empty spice conainer here? like $1.50. empty spice container at other spice stores? like 4$. the prices here are so sane and not incredibly high i wish i could go again tomorrow!

The By the Pound is awesome! Their bulk prices are wonderful and they have everything. From dark-chocolate dipped malt balls to whole vanilla beans to oats and honey. The staff is super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

this place is owned and staffed by excellent, quirky people. they are unprepossessing and they know their stuff. the spices are fresh, the flour is good, and they have all kinds of nuts and dried fruits, all kinds of dal, an amazing selection of tea, and a variety of pasta. all of this you can buy in bulk. you can also bring your own containers so you don't have to use unnecessary plastic bags. you can also take your own old plastic bags into the store and they'll recycle them! the whole building is like a hidden gem in ann arbor, with a bunch of immigrant stores (polish, brazilian...) and very little corporate feel.
