"Someone has been pestering facilities for years to have a room full of puppies where stressed out engineers could go and, I guess, roll around with puppies."

"In 2013 there were 18.8 times more Windows PCs sold than Macs. This is a reduction in the Windows advantage from about 19.8x in 2012. This decline is mostly due to the more rapid decline in Windows PC shipments relative to the more modest decline in Mac unit shipments. [...] When comparing these platforms, the contribution of the Apple mobile platform becomes striking. [...] In 2013 there were only 1.18 more Windows PCs than Apple devices sold. Odds are that in 2014 they will be at parity. [...] [I]n the 80s a platform could win by convincing 500 individuals who had the authority (as CIOs) to impose through fiat a standard on the centers of gravity of purchasing power. Today, with mobile products there are billions of decision makers. 500 decisions mean nothing. [...] The fundamental shift is therefore in the quantity of decision makers and the quality of those decisions. [...] Ultimately, it was the removal of the intermediary between buyer and beneficiary which dissolved Microsoft's power over the purchase decision. It's not just unlikely that this situation will be reversed, it's impossible."

I got the turkey kebabs, spring onions, squash and a balsamic glaze. I should have ordered some pita to go with this. #food

I can see how having the start screen be available at an invisibly clickable lower left corner of the desktop could work. It's easy to just broadly move the mouse cursor into a corner of the desktop.

But it doesn't work very well when you're attempting to find the correct invisible spot while in an RDP window. Move the cursor too far to the left, or down and you're out of the window. Move too far to the right or above, and you click on something else.

Once you're able to find the correct invisible clickable area, a small square shows up with the text "Start". You can't click on the text, you have to click on an even smaller column of squares that's to the left of the text, and the right of the edge of the RDP window.

Luckily, at this point, I can see the text of my username, and I thought to try clicking on that, and that brought up "Lock" and "Sign out". Stupid me, I clicked on "Lock" thinking it was "Log out" instead of "Sign out".

Who the fuck thought this was good UI/UX, and can I have some of what they were smoking?

http://news.discovery.com/tech/gear-and-gadgets/worlds-largest-lego-model-unveiled-in-nyc-130523.htm

The enormous LEGO model is 11 feet tall, 43 feet long and has a wingspan measuring 44 feet. It contains a whopping 5,335,200 LEGO bricks. An international team that included engineers and mechanics spent more than a year planning, designing, and then constructing the X-Wing so it would be sturdy enough for transport from LEGO's Model Shop in the Czech Republic. Construction alone took 32 builders about four months.
