Visited in 2004. I was very impressed by how well preserved it was—not just it's intactness but that the site wasn't full of brightly colored handrails and concession stands. The mood of the place is impressive to say the least.

This castle, probably best known as the Krak de Chevaliers (Castle of the Crusaders), was a highlight of my trip through Syria. Its condition is absolutely remarkable and the surrounding lookout impressive. Highly recommended.

Visited in 2010 before the castle was hit by shell fire. It was incredible to see the detail within the ancient architecture and our guide was very knowledgeable.

I have been at Al-Hesn in January 2007. It is a spectacular place with very specific geographic location that uncover all the surrounding mountain area. Do not miss it with new Syria.
