Large portions of specialty rolls, yakitori & sake served in an ample 2-story space.- Google
"Wide variety of rolls; baked salmon and crab rolls being some of the highlights."
"Even if it were, the baked lobster roll would've been worth it!"

Joy Sushi is true to its name, a joyful Japanese place. They have a good variety of Japanese food, a nice ambiance and pretty good service. I don't really know if its the best of San Mateo, but whether its a date or a small group I think most people would be satisfied by the wide options of the menu and the affordable yet solid food.

I LOVE this place. I'm a sashimi lover and to date, this has been the best place to get the best bang for your buck in terms of that. Give the chirashi and the deep fried oysters a shot. The service is decent, but I really don't care given how much I love the quality and portions of their fish. :D

I got the Caltrain roll, the California roll, and the Foster City roll. Everything was fresh, delicious, and just generally awesome. Massive too. The service could have been a little quicker, but it wasn't bad, and the food more than made up for the service. Long story short: DEFINITELY coming back again.

Bad service. Fish is fishy and warm when arrives. Pieces are cut in really different sizes so bad presentation. The only thing is it isn't too expensive but it's definitely not gonna keep up with the competition. The waiters and waitresses are fine but the managers are stingy and no good.

Atmosphere: great! Service: good enough! Food: soggy! It tasted like the ingredients spent too much time in the fridge, and the sushi rolls came out way too fast to have been freshly prepared. I thought I could manage with a little soy sauce and wasabi, only to find out that the wasabi tasted like flour. We had to return the lobster roll and couldn't really finish the mushy rock 'n' roll or cherry blossom roll.

Joy? Or is it. The chirashi was the poorest cuts of fish I've had on the peninsula. The rolls had cute names and not the taste to back it up and the texture was all wrong.
