“There are three responses to a piece of design—yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.” - Milton Glaser (aka the guy behind I❤NY...and lots more)

Studio artifacts: One of my earliest memories of real inspiration, the kind that blurs the line between imagined and real, came from the Disneyland ride posters. I think the magic is in the way they use a travel-poster style to make fantastical places seem accessible. These are on the wall to remind us words and pictures can do much more than convey information. What sorts of stuff inspires you? Do share...

We don’t need popcorn, soda or even a ticket for this show, coming to us live in Salem. Our snazzy glasses and a sense of wonder are all we’ll bring to #Eclipse2017! To mark this historic moment, we chose a historic spot: the 90-year-old Elsinore Theatre, a famous local hub for live theatre and film. You can see some amazing things at the Elsinore...but to see Monday’s “show,” you’ll have to go outside. @elsinoretheatre #salemor

Say hi to John. He’s a talented designer, who’s worked on everything from illustration to logo and apparel design, based in Salem for over 20 years of his career. A longtime fan of underground music, John has also worked on some cool punk album covers—another thing he covers? Looking sharp (case in point).

Sometimes, “rebranding” doesn’t mean a complete overhaul, but rather hitting “refresh.” This client, for example, has built a strong reputation in the past 50 years but wanted to update its image. So, we worked with them to give things a more contemporary look and feel. The logo was just one piece of the thoughtful, nuanced process of reenergizing the brand’s identity—of visually reflecting its evolution and setting it up to launch into the future.

It’s what’s on the inside that counts, right? The folks at Wright Interiors agree. One of our favorite recent projects was reworking their website with beautiful new photos and a fresh layout that highlights their work like never before.

Meet our favorite intrepid little VW Bus—part of some adventurous work we’re doing for a project promoting tourism on the Oregon Coast. The bus is gearing up for one of this summer’s biggest events: the total solar eclipse.

These other icons were created for a webpage all about the (awesome) eclipse, inspired by the spirit of exploration and an “outdoor school for grown-ups” theme. They’re all meant to encourage folks to experience nature at the shore...including totally enjoying the total eclipse!

This is Prarthana. (That’s Prah-th-nah—don’t be fooled by the tricky spelling!) A journalist and all-around wordsmith, she joins us as our new copywriter. Her Portland roots recently brought her back to the Northwest, with some newfound East Coast swagger after stints in Philly and NYC. We like the spin she puts on things, and think clients will too.

Look beyond your logo. Our Creative Director challenges businesses to rethink ‘rebranding.’

“Your brand cannot actually be ‘built’ by a designer because it is the sum total of the way that your company interacts with customers. What designers can do is create new and interesting ways to direct perceptions around your brand’s evolution—and ensure alignment with that reality.” - Duane Cardwell
