let's see if Fn keys work again on the laptop. and if on the other computer sound works again as it did on install... and let's see if the old radeon card is accelerated propperly as it wasn't in 12.04 even though documentation says it is fully supported.

Kubuntu 14.04 LTS Beta 2

Trusty Beta 2, now based on KDE SC 4.13 beta, is available for testing. Go straight to the download page[1] or read up on what's new in the release announcement[2].

Does anyone have problems with Dolphin listing Samba shares? (Dolphin -> Network -> Samba Shares -> "Workgroup")  It's either hit or miss with two 14.04beta2 machines, and I can't figure it out. They both can successfully perform smbtree from the command line.

nice they finally put a fail safe for vid drivers in grub but it already had it just it doesn't directly say you gota go to recover menu then do resume boot which is basically safe made and default vid drivers found that out the hard way but that default drivers only lasts while in that boot
i've had to reinstall linux over 10 times before i found that out on accident and also once for finding out the hard way Linux or at-least mint doesn't do like windows and if it fails to boot a drive that isn't the os drive it just continues booting instead your stuck at the boot screen forever unless you are great with terminal and can fix it from there which i can not

When the "Reset" (in german "Zurücksetzen") Button is pressed after doing some changes the list of available drivers is doubled.

Calling all Testers

Candidate images for #Kubuntu 14.04LTS are up and need you to test them. Go to the ISO tracking site[1] to download and mark your testing status. Check out the milestoned bugs[2] for issues we are aware of and do report any we are not.

they are not very supportive imo. they'll probably just tell me to reinstall with the rc image, though the issue might still be present. that's what I'm going to do anyway, I just thought some testing feedback about severe issues would be useful for the release. On the beta2 downloads page it actually says to give feedback here.

Hi, upgraded to KDE 14.04 and it works fine except for one thing : cannot suspend/restart/shutdown from the GUI. Bug explained there : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1295521
I had a similar issue with Saucy.

I just installed the alpha package from today (03.02). Thank you very much for providing kubuntu 14.04. I would like to provide some feedback. In the wiki for the alpha release you asked to give feedback via this community. I hope this is the way you expect it:

Kubuntu 14.04  is already very stable on my system (AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840). I love the visual integration of firefox into KDE Unfortunately firefox still ignores KDE system settings (applications / settings). Openoffice integrates visually also much better into KDE now. The settings dialog looks but better now.

Apart from that I recognized some little bugs:

1. Ffdiaporama (very good tool) has no icon after installation.

2. Amarok shows 2 error messages when starting in lower right corner. The first is "Free music charts. Download of charts seem to have failed. Please Check you internet connection", the second is "Timeout at server 207.200.96.225: Waittime for socket operation is expired" (second message is translated from german).

3. Amarok MP3 musicstore (amazon) is not working. Seaching for "madonna" fails with absolutely no results.

4. UPNP seems not to work, neither in amarok nor in dolphin. So this seems to be a KIO problem. For me that is a pitty as home entertainment is more and more based on DLNA.

5. Sound output via my HDMI monitor (NVidia GT520/GF119) works only when I deactivate the analog soundcard (Nvidia  MCP61 aka "internal Audio")  completly. As phonon backend I am using (the default) gstreamer.

In my opinion it would be better to remove features (Amarok modules) instead of having fragments of these features that you could not get to work at all.
