The term “hard water” is somewhat misleading. The water isn’t actually hard in any sense, but it does contain dissolved mineral components, usually calcium and magnesium. When water contains a high concentration of these minerals, it can cause a wide variety of inconvenience and damage.

Most lawns need about 3/4 to 1 inch of water once per week. Save water in yard week — or once every two weeks when the weather cools. Infrequent but deep watering will encourage deep rooting, making for healthier and hardier plants with a greater tolerance for drought.

The water you use in your home or business commonly contains a range of minerals. The types and amounts of these minerals (measured in parts per million, or ppm) determine the “hardness” of your water supply.
