Same here, if contractors or service providers are not getting good reviews, they cannot blame you; they can only do better.

We have used Homestars for many years now, and have never had any complaints about the service they provide. This is a great forum for all of our customers to relate their experiences with our business. Sometimes even the negative reviews end up gaining new business for us based on our responses to the review. I have been frustrated with other review sites for allowing fake reviews to stay up because it doesn't conflict with their review guideline policies, or another site for not allowing legitimate reviews to be visible because they are "not currently recommended" as the reviewer hasn't used their site many times. Homestars has always been consistent and reliable for us.

I was referred to Marc Azulay from a good friend of mine who purchased from him a couple years ago. I can’t explain how courteous and helpful he was the whole way through the process, he took the time and patience with us and guided us with plenty of options and assured us on the quality. It took us about a month to make a decision but once we did we contacted Marc and he again made the process as easy as possible. He sent a thank you card personally written which I appreciated and provided us with a nice gift. I would recommend him and BEST BRAND APPLIANCE to anyone looking for great appliances, service and pricing. Thank you Marc and the BBA team!

the website works a lead generator for contractors, I have worked someone really contractor and extremely bad and fraudulent contractor. The problem with this website is it doesn't show the recent bad reviews for the bad contractor. We are talking about a contractor that is ripping senior citizens and people who don't know what things really cost. They would charge over a thousand for $200 job, refuse to provide itemized invoice, just shameful. while YELP has more accurate rating of the bad plumbing company, as a matter of fact 4 people have reached to me on YELP and told they regret hiring the plumbing company. The contractor also has fake YELP ratings badge on this website. Why would same plumbing company score POOR on YELP and Goggle but 9.7/10 on HomeStar! There is no way I can trust homestar anymore, check YELP or Google instead nextime.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS ! CHARGE THIER CLIENTS FOR THE ABILITY TO DELETE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. "THIS REVIEW DOES NOT MEET HOMESTARS CRITERIA " = please be informed someone posted a nasty review about our paying client- so we removed it. GOOGLE HOMESTARS SCAM YOURSELF. BIAS BIAS BIAS barely deserving a slightly useful rating.

Hi Doug, thank you for sharing your concerns. Unpaid companies can request an investigation on a negative review the same as paid members, we process those requests all the time. It's important to note than when we investigate a review we are looking for proof that a transaction occurred between the review writer and the company, so that we know the review is from a real customer. That's all we check, the content of the review is considered an opinion and we don't arbitrate the details of the review in any way. Besides company requests to investigate reviews, there is also a number of verifications that are done randomly every day that can be done on either positive or negative reviews. I hope this helps address your concerns - Sarah Steele, Manager of the Customer Success Team.

I'd give Home Stars a 4.5. I'm a long-time user of Home Stars and they sent me this request: "As an experienced HomeStars user, would you mind taking a moment to write a quick review on our Google Business page?" I use homestars as part of my decision making process because I've been burned by a contractor before (took a deposit and ran) and no government agency helped. I think consumers need to be wary and smart. The challenge is that some unethical companies will get their friends to review them or create fake accounts to review that way - or even show photos from other contractors telling clients that this is their work. Fraudsters exist - a fact of life. You have to be aware that no company can fully exclude or weed out the poison. I look to people who post photos and have 3+ reviews on varied services. I think Home Stars is now doing a good job trying to identify and keep 'real' companies and clients. I've rated companies from a 1* to a 10* without any resistance/problems from home stars - and hope others can learn from my experiences. Once, I was asked by HS to provide proof of transaction with the company I reviewed - it was a great internal check/verification and I was happy to oblige. No company has ever asked me to review them - until this request from HS and I'm happy to give commendation to a process that is helping consumers. Thanks to those of you who share your honest experiences and photos on the site - you've helped me a great deal.

If you are a contractor and looking for ways to advertise your business, don't waste your money with homestars! Once you sign up for a homestars, Nadia would start calling and emailing you almost everyday, saying how great the homestars are, showing great looking stats of paid profiles. In reality after having a paid subscription with homestars for a year, my stats didnt even look close to what Nadia was promising me. Nice sales presentation! Good sales pitch! And after you sign up for paid subscription, homestars reps disappear, sometimes you will have to wait a week just get a reply to your email. Great customer service!

BEWARE OF THESE GUYS!! We used to be a paying home stars customer and we used to get treated like gold, all our customers reviews used to get posted, but now that we have stopped paying them they now reject any good reviews from our customers and are more than happy to post the negative reviews, nothing like a little soft extortion if you can get away with it eh homestars? they are impossible to get a hold of now that we have stopped paying them to discuss customer issues because they don't want to hear from the business owners who are upset that their misleading site is unfairly harming their businesses and livelihood, and unless of course you want to buy their advertising, then they are very happy to talk to you, Home stars does not give an accurate representation of businesses they give their preferred representation depending on weather you pay them for their advertising or not. This site misleads customers who are so dependant on customers reviews that can destroy a good company's reputation. A lot of good honest hard working companies are being swayed by these crumbs. They hold way too much power on the internet they are hurting people and their livelihoods and need to be stopped!

I found about this page from Homestars itself. Specifically, (quote): "As an experienced HomeStars user, would you mind taking a moment to write a quick review on our Google Business page?" So, I decided "why not?". I found it fascinating to have so many positive and equally negative reviews. I am not questioning tactics of the company or the way they conduct business. I can tell you that sometimes it's easy to post review as a consumer. Sometimes it hits a wall and a lot of checking, which I personally appreciate. The way I personally use this site seems to be slightly different from others here. When I need a contractor, say, plumber, I check first 2 pages of the companies nearby. Never go any further. However, for every company I actually *read* the reviews. Especially, negative ones. There are things that are important to me (money vacuuming, broken promises, slappy job etc.), but there are equally unimportant things, like "came 5 minutes late". It's personal preference. I *always* ignore companies with all 5 star reviews. I believe they are fake. We are all human and no company can perform 100% at all times. I also ignore companies with extra bad reviews, though I do read them to make sure they are legit. Finally, I ignore reviews that are extra hateful or sounds like written by competitors (it's easy to spot by special lexicon and usage of words you would not typically spell until in that business) Then, I call and discuss. Looking for attitude, responsiveness, willingness to grab the contract and pushy tactics. Watching for ignorance and arrogance. Is Homestars perfect for the reviews? May be not. But it certainly better place to start with. When I deal with good business, I always leave a review. I don't care if it will be published or not, though it is very likely to be published. I never experienced removal or positive or negative reviews like others reported here. Do I believe it's wild world out there with competitors trying to stomp each other? Yes, I do believe that. I also believe Homestars is doing its best to swim honestly in that wild sea of fraud out there. Would you suggest a better way? Open your own company or send suggestions to Homestars. And I am not affiliated with them in any way. However, gas, electricity, plumbing and tree care services came from Homestars for me (or word of mouth from the friends when opportunity presented itself)

Thank you Shimon for the thoughtful comments posted about HomeStars. I have shared this with the team - it's nice to hear we've helped inform you a little better. I agree homeowners need to do more homework, especially with larger jobs, and we are happy to be a helpful starting point in your research. Best, Nancy Peterson (founder)
