Same here, if contractors or service providers are not getting good reviews, they cannot blame you; they can only do better.

I found about this page from Homestars itself. Specifically, (quote): "As an experienced HomeStars user, would you mind taking a moment to write a quick review on our Google Business page?" So, I decided "why not?". I found it fascinating to have so many positive and equally negative reviews. I am not questioning tactics of the company or the way they conduct business. I can tell you that sometimes it's easy to post review as a consumer. Sometimes it hits a wall and a lot of checking, which I personally appreciate. The way I personally use this site seems to be slightly different from others here. When I need a contractor, say, plumber, I check first 2 pages of the companies nearby. Never go any further. However, for every company I actually *read* the reviews. Especially, negative ones. There are things that are important to me (money vacuuming, broken promises, slappy job etc.), but there are equally unimportant things, like "came 5 minutes late". It's personal preference. I *always* ignore companies with all 5 star reviews. I believe they are fake. We are all human and no company can perform 100% at all times. I also ignore companies with extra bad reviews, though I do read them to make sure they are legit. Finally, I ignore reviews that are extra hateful or sounds like written by competitors (it's easy to spot by special lexicon and usage of words you would not typically spell until in that business) Then, I call and discuss. Looking for attitude, responsiveness, willingness to grab the contract and pushy tactics. Watching for ignorance and arrogance. Is Homestars perfect for the reviews? May be not. But it certainly better place to start with. When I deal with good business, I always leave a review. I don't care if it will be published or not, though it is very likely to be published. I never experienced removal or positive or negative reviews like others reported here. Do I believe it's wild world out there with competitors trying to stomp each other? Yes, I do believe that. I also believe Homestars is doing its best to swim honestly in that wild sea of fraud out there. Would you suggest a better way? Open your own company or send suggestions to Homestars. And I am not affiliated with them in any way. However, gas, electricity, plumbing and tree care services came from Homestars for me (or word of mouth from the friends when opportunity presented itself)

Best place to find top trades online with the most authentic reviews. Companies with a few years of positive reviews are definitely from the top companies in toronto. I've had only positive experiences from the services and trades i've hired off the site. Great work Homestars!

This Company is Fraudulent! If a jealous competitor submits bad review about Your Company that rejected HomeStar's offer of $299.00 subscription monthly they will allow it without any proof or any questions asked. Almost as if they personally allow it because you did not pay them to reject those reviews. The $299 monthly is to reject, pause and investigate reliable reviews of a frustrated customer that had a bad experience with subscribed company paying $299.00 hence why they do not allow many honest reviews about companies that are paying them, because the companies would just end up leaving HomeStar's. In other words HomeStar's is not actually a forum for honest review researching before picking any business to service your needs. they are just a magazine soliciting their $299 monthly services for 5 star reviews, With that comes the dishonesty of such a horrendous company that will reject a review that is honest towards a company that is paying them, they won't allow it. My tip to anyone having any sort of bad experience with this magazine posing as a review website for homeowners while behind the walls offering and cold call telemarketing to small business that receive one bad review from a rude disrespectful customer yeah every business owner knows they exsist. If your company reputation has been damaged by HomeStar's file a lawsuit in small claims court maximum $25,000 only cost ruffly $100 explaining Your situation and maybe printing all these reviews about their company and there exploiting techniques to trap small business owners in a monthly subscription of 300$ per month. surely that will get a judge to hear your and 100s of business effected by this companies exploiting techniques and fraudulent review setting decisions.

I believe you've been given some misinformation about how HomeStars paid memberships work. We do not have any pricing structure like the one you describe. If you look around HomeStars.com you will see that all companies can receive positive or negative reviews whether or not they are paid members, it all depends on the quality of service they provide and what their customers want to say about them. The HomeStars paid membership provides marketing tools for companies that wish to promote their services using their online reputation, but it doesn't change how the reviews are handled by our Content Integrity Team. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clarify, I hope this is helpful - Sarah Steele, Manager of the Customer Success Team.

(PLEASE READ)Having and possessing Firsthand inside knowledge on the inner workings of Homestars company .I will share... Their greatest skill set is the seo .They game Google with grey hat techniques. They show up on every search term in google regarding all the keywords for home services and repairs. They do not belong on the top of google as they are not roofers, plumbers or electricians. This is evidenced of their ability to trick Google by using grey hat techniques. They Do manipulate and groom their subscriber's listings. They Do scrutinize the positive and negative reviews (albeit NOT random, but weighted) by their investigative process. Thus they can throttle one's reputation up or down.Their rankings of their trade subscribers are COMPLETELY arbitrary. If they love a company, they move up.If they don't,well you know and see what happens.Their "Best Of Awards" are also COMPLETELY arbitrary as well. All you have to do is read into their site listings and watch how they operate. They have become much too powerful website that does not provide a a true reputation depiction of many great companies. Also I might I heard that some companies will use SPOOF clients to provide bad reviews for their competitors. The online review process is almost useless. As they say "If your going to tell a lie, tell a big one that the masses will believe The media will pick up this post. There should be no doubt about what was said here.We urge its subscribers to not pay their monthly dues and and opt only for the free listings.

Here at HomeStars we love companies that provide a great service to their customers, are honest and don't cheat with reviews. Whether or not a company wins the Best Of Award, or their reputation goes up or down, is all up to their customers. I'm sorry if someone has given you misinformation about how HomeStars works. I hope this is helpful, Sarah Steele - Manager of the Customer Success Team.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND 90 PERCENT BIAS ! USEFUL BUT USE CAUTION. They charge buisnesses a fee to allow them to appeal and possibly remove any negative reviews e.g. " this review did not meet Home☆ criteria" Home☆ will email the negative reviewers and make requests to keep the negative review posted (after they deleted it), and will in some cases possibly not repost the negative reviews if the buisnesses are thier paying members. I am certain that there must be countless great buisnesses reviewed here BUT how do consumers filter through the horrible ones ? PROBABLY NOT HERE - I LEARNED THAT THE COSTLY WAY ! GOOGLE HOME☆ SCAM YOURSELF. Eat some reality Home☆, and you can't cry to Google to unpost this review. I apologize to all the Home☆ members/clients that are legitimate, honest and do perform outstanding work. I have never seen a review site with so many 9/10 & 10/10 reviews. I would say Home☆ is somewhat useful, however far from perfect. It is justified that thier paying members can appeal a negative review as it may be a competitor posting fraudulent reviews to harm other companies - but simply too bias.

Response from the owner - in the last week
Hi Doug, thank you for sharing your concerns. Unpaid companies can request an investigation on a negative review the same as paid members, we process those requests all the time. It's important to note than when we investigate a review we are looking for proof that a transaction occurred between the review writer and the company, so that we know the review is from a real customer. That's all we check, the content of the review is considered an opinion and we don't arbitrate the details of the review in any way. Besides company requests to investigate reviews, there is also a number of verifications that are done randomly every day that can be done on either positive or negative reviews. I hope this helps address your concerns - Sarah Steele, Manager of the Customer Success Team.

e.g. CLERA WINDOWS has 9.6 out of 10 stars. I do work for a window company but we don't pay HomeStars. Frankly, our company has a few scorchingly bad reviews (some we can't determine whether they are legitimate). CLERA Windows has page after page ... after page, of glowing 10 Star reviews. No typos, product names used, they touch all the bases - Perfect Writing. That is to say, copy writers, marketers - NOT customers. Skip on down to page 126 and you find 2 stars, 0 stars. CLERA shamelessly exploits this design loophole in it's print ads and websites. HomeStars doesn't mind as THEY get promoted And they get paid their yearly stipend. People rely on this website. It's something of a shell game and people should know that. This practice should be illegal. The onus is on HomeStars to tighten up. Great idea. They've made their money now please spend some legitimizing reviews.

Hi James - I'm happy to hear more of your thoughts directly. Our mission has always been to put the homeowner first and the legitimacy of reviews is fundamental to that. Certainly you can voice concerns on a public forum but other than your feeling that Clera windows has potentially fake reviews I'm not sure what else your concerns are. Have you notified us of the reviews on your listing you have concerns about ? If not - notify us on the contact us form and specify the review date and your domains name. For our part we constantly check and validate the legitimacy of reviews and if a company has gotten people to put up false ones - there are severe penalties. We will be making these deterrents even stricter so all whistle blowing is welcome and helpful to our team. No one pays to get to be top rated. Anything else you can let me know at nancy at HomeStars dot com Kind Regards, Nancy Peterson (founder)

I was referred to Marc Azulay from a good friend of mine who purchased from him a couple years ago. I can’t explain how courteous and helpful he was the whole way through the process, he took the time and patience with us and guided us with plenty of options and assured us on the quality. It took us about a month to make a decision but once we did we contacted Marc and he again made the process as easy as possible. He sent a thank you card personally written which I appreciated and provided us with a nice gift. I would recommend him and BEST BRAND APPLIANCE to anyone looking for great appliances, service and pricing. Thank you Marc and the BBA team!

Tried to leave a review for a company ( very pleased) they did an awesome job. The homestars ask me for a proof, by sending the contract and my identity. As it sounds crazy and it goes against the privacy act. I have had email to them all the paperwork. Since that I still don't see my review posted nor a response from the homestars. It clearly a scam of some sort! Talk to the company that did the job for me, they sad the homestars do this all the time. Stay a way People, don't even bother to register. They are collecting your emails and will sell them to somebody else. This is how they are making the money

Sorry your review did not get published Kevin - and feel free to send us a note at contact@homestars.com to inquire or have your account removed with us. We absolutely do not sell emails to anyone. HomeStars does make random verification checks with users to make sure they hired the company they wrote about. As you can appreciate, we do not want to publish fake reviews. Our mission is to protect homeowners and ensure they hire companies that stand behind their work. Our doors are always open for homeowners and companies to talk to us about their concerns. We are always trying to improve, and listen to our users. Kind regards, Nancy Peterson founder
