Recently heard about a way to hack some strobes (that do not have hss capability) to do hss.  Tried it with this monolight and had pretty good results.  First, put a hss capable speedlight in your camera hotshoe. Turn on the hss in manual mode (you may have to experiment with the power setting).  Turn on the monolight and set it to be triggered by the OPTICAL trigger and make sure the optical sensor will be in direcdt line-of-sight with your speedlite.  Set the shutter speed higher than normal synch speed.  I had success up past 1/750th of a sec.  Compose your shot, making sure your speedlite light can be seen by the monolight.  The earliest part of the pulsed speedlite hss light trips the monolight and effectively hacks the sync problem of the evil black bar.  Try it with your gear and let me know your results!

Sprint was no help with a broken phone screen (and they tell me it would have been $150 IF I had the insurance on it, which I didn't). Viewtech replaced the screen within 2 hours for only $90. So, I'm mighty happy.
