Fiesta San Antonio is still going strong! Get ready for the 66th anniversary of the Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade this Saturday celebrating the 2014 theme, “A Time to Remember.” The Fiesta Flambeau Parade is one of the largest illuminated parades in the US and the University of Texas Longhorn Band is the premier band that traditionally leads the parade each year. The parade also features marching units, out-of-town bands, equestrian units, musical groups and many other attractions to create a night of incredible illuminated entertainment in San Antonio. #FiestaSA

The 123-year- old Battle of Flowers Parade is this Friday with this year's theme- The Magic of Make Believe! "A sense of wonderment will take a child's dreams and turn them into magic for them, their families and the inner child in all of us." In early 1891, Mrs. James Slayden, the wife of a congressman, began a campaign suggesting that a “Flower Parade” be staged based on a parade she had observed while in Spain. Wanting to honor the fallen heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, Mrs. Slayden concluded that April 21 would be the best date for the parade. Today, the Battle of Flowers® Parade holds the distinction of being the first celebration held in Alamo Plaza and is considered the founding event of Fiesta® San Antonio.

Discovery Green in Houston, Texas hosts FUNomenal Family Festival which “celebrates the kid in all of us.” Nearly 15,000 people attended the popular family event held in March. Kids of all ages participate in the Baby Olympics with events ranging from 6-9 month lil' ones in a crawling race to the Rock & Roll race for children of 3-5 years of age. In addition to Baby Olympics, families had a blast at the Amerigroup RealSolutions Zone which played host to two foam parties for kids of different ages with water balls and a moonwalk. Hemisfair is the place that leads San Antonio on the path from good to great
Introduction
Downtown is the heart and soul of our City, and we desire to make it everybody’s neighborhood. Featuring iconic landmarks such as the Tower of Americas, the Alamo and the Riverwalk, San Antonio must protect its most vital and historical resources, and invest to create a more desirable place for locals.

The vision for the redevelopment of Hemisfair is to create a vital mixed use area, centered on a city park which maintains and revitalizes the historic buildings while reconnecting the area to the adjacent neighborhoods and providing new mixed use development, compatible in scale with adjacent properties. Hemisfair Park will continue to be an accessible neighborhood park that unifies the city, serves as a community gathering place, and provides an opportunity for citizens to work, live, and play. Hemisfair Park will offer many special places and uses; some active, some quiet.

This vision will foster community-wide impact by recognizing the Hemisfair Park area as critical connecting tissue between previously disengaged sectors of the urban core. Capitalizing on the success of HemisFair ’68, the plan’s improvements will encourage economic vitality, pride and a sense of community for generations of San Antonians now and yet to come.
