Ok. So I play a lot of Farmville. My first reaction to it years ago was wondering how anybody could possibly get anything done. I was totally into the Mario Bros thing and got through it with a cheat book and a game genie. My sister said make lots of friends and share a lot. I just took a selfie in front of the fountain at the top of Hanging Gardens in Farmville. The fountain pumps out instant grows. I have lots of friends and tend lots of farms. I share farm photos on Facebook with the little camera feature in the game. I think I've improved my composition arranging all the stuff in each farm. And it has kept me busy and out of trouble. Imagine what I would be doing if I wasn't spending so much time on it.

When I went to the Newseum yesterday, I had planned on whipping out my sketchbook and doing some really cool sketches for my Drawing III class. They have the communications tower from the top of the World Trade Center in their 9/11 exhibit and I wanted to see it, so I went there. It’s really real. Not a picture, not a video, not a news story on TV. It’s metal. Twisted in ways it shouldn’t be. You can see rivets, and cables, and ragged edges where stuff was attached that isn’t there anymore. I could see all the colors of my drawing charcoal in the rust and paint. I could see the angle I would draw from. I could draw this. But I wept. And looked. And asked myself why I wanted to learn how to draw. And I realized that if I can’t get on the internet, or I lose my laptop, or my camera battery dies, I would only need a piece of paper and a pencil to share to the need to know.

Yesterday, instead of drawing nudes in Drawing III, I went to the Newseum in Washington, DC.

Did two drawings last Monday. One is charcoal and color pencil. The other is pastel. Both are on toned sketch paper. I was really surprised how good the pastel looks. My model was the large skeleton we got for Halloween this year. I dressed it with bulky cold weather work clothes and posed it in the living room.

Working on my drawing in class. The lecture was about doing portraits for the Drawing II people, but it was totally interesting and I got a lot from it. It's neat being in a multi-level classroom.
