I don't like writing negative reviews, but I feel a duty to share my experience to help others avoid making the same bad decision. I lived in this community for two years and finally moved out in July after a second major rent increase and observing deteriorating management. It was, hands down, the worst rental experience I've ever had. First, the rent dramatically increases every year, and it goes up by a lot ($120/month the first year, $100/month the second year). It's owned by a big real estate company (H.G. Fenton) and it's not a very humanistic management team, to say the least. The staff is "fake" friendly when you move in. When you're moving out, not so much. I'm convinced they get incentives for sending nasty emails. The maintenance team was nice and responsive to minor requests and sprayed every year for black widows, but issues such as a broken heater took two weeks to fix. I know we live in San Diego, but it was COLD in there! Aesthetically, the complex needs some work, as well. It's been half-painted for about a year now and the management has said they're still getting bids from painters, but in the meantime it looks like low-income housing. Finally, there's very little attention paid to the apartments lower on the hill...my neighbor left his garbage outside of his door for days (including on Halloween when there were trick-or-treaters -- yes, I did take it out for him a couple times!) and I've requested that the apartment wash the shared landing area, but they never did. Guest parking is impossible at times because some renters have multiple cars or very large cars that take up more than one space. In addition, the highway noise is very real. It doesn't bother some people but it did bother me. When it comes time to renew your lease, the management team pressures you to review the new rent rate and decide whether you're moving or not in a matter of days. Otherwise they will charge you for every day you are still contemplating your decision. I actually had negative days because I didn't receive the letter until closer to mid-month. There is no negotiation or friendliness...zero. This is why big real estate companies are not good landlords. They just want more money and they don't care if you move out because they'll just get someone to replace you who will pay even more! Overall, this place is more palatable when you are a brand new tenant. They'll even give you a free candle as a housewarming gift. Just keep in mind that rent will likely rise significantly and sooner or later you will be moving out, dealing with not-very-nice people. So not worth it. When you do, I can guarantee it will be costly and frustrating! In my opinion, there are so many better places and at much better prices to live in the Scripps Ranch/Mira Mesa area! If you have to live in that area (as I did), try to work with a smaller real estate company. Definitely look around before landing at Scripps Landing. Also, I highly encourage other people who have lived here or do live here to provide reviews, good or bad. H.G. Fenton spends a lot of marketing dollars to make this place seem great when you move in, but potential renters need real info!

Great location and an awesome staff, thank you Monique and Jose for taking great care of us for five years. I came for six months with the Marine Corps which ended up getting extended, and extended, and extended. My wife and I are now finally getting transfered to the East Coast and we're nervous about finding a new place to live. We keep saying we hope we find a place exactly like Scripps Landing. Like I said, the staff takes care of everything you can think of. The facilities are immaculate, I've never had to share the pool or hot tub when I go there. Guest parking is the best I've seen of any other apartment complex in San Diego. The rent is tough to beat and the location is great. Right by the I-15 and the nearby shopping center in Mira Mesa has anything you could need.

First off, I love Scripps Ranch. It's safe, quiet, and comfy. It's really close to Mira Mesa without being TOO close to the madness and traffic. But we're right next to the Theater, restaurants, 3 grocery stores (including Trader Joe's-my fave), starbucks, and so much more. It is such an ideal location. Plus, the apartments are lovely. The landscaping is gorgeous and the company takes really good care of their residents. They are constantly having free events and food for everyone. I LOVE Scripps Landing and highly recommend living here!

Ive lived here about a year now and Im very pleased so far. I live on the hill in the villa apartments. The view from the gazebo is breathtaking. The washer and dryers in the unit are a huge convience. The maintainence staff was extremely quick and professional. Very quite place. I love the managers Monique and Lisa. Some of the Cons include mass infestation of spiders (an arachniphobe like myself worst nightmare) from hell. Spiders unlike Ive ever seen. The massive ones spread their web across walkways making movement outside quite perilous. It is up in the mountains, so rodents and wildlife are more prevelent here. Ive seen mice and racoons around the dumpster area. Also, the street is a major road for emergency response vehicles, so load sirens and EMT vehicles disturbing your evening are a usual occurance. Overall, this was definatly a place to call home, and would recommend it to all!
