Some useful insight into yet another Cuban defector, this time OF Yasmani Tomas.

I hope the Phillies do get him. It would bring some excitement and help in the rebuilding process. The red Sox already got started.

Good piece, although the conclusion about the strike zone being to blame isn't as strongly supported as the "exoneration of the shift" data. But the numbers don't lie; the shift isn't to blame for declining offense.
We are facing a troubling decline in offense, but are shifts really the cause?

Keeping up with all these moves is exhausting! What a day!

And yes, I'm not happy at all that the Phillies didn't make ANY moves.

Detroit rotation is incredible I mean three cy young winners and an era champion.

"At this point, the odds look good that the Phillies will have paid Ryan Howard $125 million to be less valuable than a guy they could've found in the minors and paid the league minimum."
Ryan Howard is regressing at an alarming pace, with two-plus season left on his hefty contract.

The worse contract amaro has given out and there have been a few. Might be the worst contract in mlb history unless he turns it around

Yikes. Waino is getting lit up. 3 extra base hits in the first, including the Miggy homer. Kershaw could be in next inning.

Haha. I thought the starters would last 2 innings each. I didn't expect them to switch pitchers each inning. But I'll take it!

So, who's everyone voting for in the Final Vote? I voted for Chris Sale and Anthony Rizzo.

Your 2014 MLB All-Stars!

Personally, while I do think Jeter should get to participate, since it's his last season in the bigs, there is absolutely no chance he should've gotten the start. None. There is no possible justification ("It's happened before" is the worst possible justification). The AL SS starter should've been either Alexei Ramirez or Erick Aybar, IMO.
The AL and NL rosters for the July 15 Midsummer Classic were unveiled Sunday night, featuring 26 first-time All-Stars. Balloting for the final spot on both rosters -- the Final Vote -- has begun.

Can I just mention the crime that Chris Sale isn't on the team and now has to beg for votes to be included in the festivities?

I read once where a lot of people view Fay Vincent as the last independent commissioner. Granted it was probably a critic of Selig but an interesting thought nonetheless

Looks like there's some hope for Chicago. Some...Chicago Hope?

It's happening, #Cubs fans. Javier Baez is expected to join the big leagues tomorrow: http://atmlb.com/1mg7lUS

Not offended. I'm a Phillies fan; I suffer enough as is nowadays. Just wanted to share the news for Cubs fans out there.

And not for nothing, they're building an impressive core out there. The Cubs' farm system is loaded with talent, except pitching. They get themselves some good, young pitching to go with some of these new guys, and they'll be good for a while.

So with the second half set to start tomorrow, here's how I think things will shake out.

NLE: Washington
NLC: St. Louis/Cincinnati*
NLW: Los Angeles
NLWC: Milwaukee/San Francisco

ALE: Baltimore
ALC: Detroit
ALW: Oakland
ALWC: Los Angeles/Seattle

NLCS: Washington vs. Los Angeles
ALCS: Baltimore vs Oakland

World Series: Washington vs Oakland

Champions: Oakland A's

*conditional on if the Cardinals get David Price. If so, then I think St. Louis takes it. Otherwise, I'm going with Cincinnati.
