Should we require anyone to wear a helmet? We do it "because we care. But as we learned from the original food pyramid, sometimes good intentions pave the road to adult-onset diabetes." http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/03/the-bike-helmet-paradox/273555/

Interested in inspiring others to give biking to work a try, or bike around their neighborhood with their family? Think more of your friends would bike more if they had just a little more confidence in their biking skills?

Consider becoming a League (of American Bicyclists) Cycling Instructor (LCI) and teach “Smart Cycling”. Its is a great way to help others in our community. Certified instructors have the knowledge to teach a variety of workshops for different audiences. Imagine 1-hour brown bag lunch presentations being offered at workplaces, presentations to local Rotary clubs and church groups, workshops on university and college campuses on bike commuting and bike comfort, teaching safety skills to children, or a workshop with tips on biking as a family and with kids! Oh my!

"Summit organizers were also very interested what’s been going on and the successes in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County! Kyle Lawrence, SVBC Board President, was invited to present at one of the workshops. He presented “The Story of Bicycle Development in a Small Rural City.” He shared the value of Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition members as advocates and the work that they do in our community, how SVBC co-sponsored a group of citizen and city of Harrisonburg staff and officials on a trip to Davis, California in 2010, how City Council appropriated $1.2 million last year to the Northend Greenway and the Bluestone Trail projects, and discussed the great value of partnerships between SVBC, the Northend Greenway, James Madison University, City of Harrisonburg, and Rockingham County."
