Who are the Buryats?

The Buryats are the largest indigenous group in Siberia who has lived here before the Russians and are closely related to Mongolians. As the largest ethnic minority group in Siberia, the Buryats are estimated to number 436 000, half of which populate the Lake Baikal area. The Buryats practice Tibetan Buddhism with a touch a paganism. Their language is similar to Mongolian and is a member of the Altaic family of languages.

You can visit the Buryats' settlement on the 1nd day of the Lake Baikal Cruise.

Few days ago a group of friends from the USA were looking to do one of our Moscow and St. Petersburg tours. We were glad to suggest them the tour “Moscow and St. Petersburg, 8 days, 7 nights”.

It is their first time in Russia so the travelers were raring to visit and explore the cultural and historical places of both Russian cities. This tour also suggests the opportunity to travel by train from Moscow to St. Petersburg (or in a reverse order) and enjoy the lovely countryside of Russia.

Our travelers also wanted to find out the information about nightlife in our capital. The truth is Moscow has no shortage of nightlife. There is a great variety of bars, night clubs, live music, jazz and blues restaurants for all tastes. One of the popular phrases about Moscow – “Moscow never sleeps” and it can’t be argued.

Kazan

Kazan is the capital city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, and one of Russia’s largest cities. It has an extremely rich history being founded in 1005 as the capital of the Tatars. It was conquered by Ivan the Terrible in 1552 when he began a process of Russification of the city. Almost the entire population was massacred during the siege and in the period after. In extremely recent years, the city has been completely reformed to celebrate its 1000 year anniversary. It is a major industrial, commercial and cultural centre, and remains the most important centre of Tatar culture. In Kazan both Russian and Tatar is spoken and all signs are in both languages; a true indication of a complete mix of cultures.

What is Russia's Temple of All Religions in Kazan all about?

"The temple combines images of religious buildings of different faiths in an attempt to achieve harmony and peaceful coexistence. This miracle of architectural thought was originally designed by a local resident Ildar Khanov. He began the construction in 1994. Unfortunately, Ildar did not live to see the completion of the temple. Today, it is being finished with money from donations." by russiatrek.org
