"Transportation officials say that on just one day last winter, 86 percent of the vehicles that caused accidents and delays had worn tires."
Hundreds of drivers stopped to get their tires checked at Arapahoe Basin Saturday – and about 15 percent of those weren't cut out for high country travel, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Need to bag some more peaks before it gets too heavy up there.

It's still too early to tell, but it's looking like an average winter at the least, and if all the pieces fall into place, maybe a great snow year.

The Sunday storm left the local ski areas with 6 -9 inches of snow, and a couple of inches on yards and decks down in town. ~ Our weather is supposed to dry out now and give us one more shot at fall before the next more wintry storm comes in at the end of the month.

Peak fall color this week! ~ A cold front around September 28 may bring snow down to 10,000 feet, with lots of wind that could end up stripping off most of the leaves, so that means this could be the best final week for viewing fall color. We just spent three days camping and driving around north/central Colorado, and the colors are spectacular right now. Grab your camera and head for the closest mountains! Plowing season is just six weeks away.

Cool air to hit Colorado Saturday evening, with snow on the high peaks above 12,000 feet. ~ If you will be driving over any of the high passes, be prepared for icy conditions. Fall is here - enjoy our final six weeks or so before winter starts.

MONSOON SEASON IS HERE ~ "Heavy rain will likely fall from Tuesday evening through Wednesday from Denver north to Wyoming and there is a high chance of flooding. Other areas of Colorado will see healthy rain but lower chances of flooding. Below-average temperatures will stay with us through early August."
