While we had a few snow-free days in Summit County, one of our customers asked us to clear a driveway for them located north of Black Hawk. The driveway is 3/4 mile long, completely unmarked, and the snow was 3 to 6 feet deep.

5TH RANKED SINGLE-DAY STORM SINCE 1893! ~ You knew the snow was epic, now we have data from NOAA to tell us just how extraordinary last week's storm was. The next most recent Dillon single-day storm ranking in the top 10 was #10 in 1977. Forecasts are calling for another snowy weekend with lots of moisture in the storms. This snow was too dry and powdery to pack very well, but we did manage a small snowman. :)  We hope you are all enjoying playing in it too!

Our dry spell has broken, fresh powder is on the ground in Summit County! For those of you not out plowing, snow day tomorrow. :)
Of course a snow storm means that the roads are a bit nasty tonight. Check 511 or cdot.org for current driving conditions.

This will be interesting. We may see this show up along the I-70 corridor through Summit County.

A tow plow is a trailer pulled by a normal plow truck that swings out to the side and can plow snow and apply de-icer.  “Our tow plows are able to plow and/or de-ice 24 feet or two lanes of the Interstate with one snow plow truck and one employee with a second truck clearing the shoulders,” said CDOT Maintenance Superintendent Tim Miles. “By using fewer trucks to plow the same amount of space, we are hoping to use the extra truck for other highways in the area, ultimately increasing our coverage and improving safety during this testing period.”

When the tow plow is in use, both lanes of I-70 will be blocked and the snow plow will be traveling at 35 MPH. Both the snow plow and tow plow will be equipped with flashing lights and motorists should be prepared for slower travel speeds. Motorists should also stay far back from the plow as it is the safest spot with a clear roadway and increased traction.

BLIZZARD WARNING ~ A severe storm is forecast to be hitting Colorado starting tonight through Friday morning, with one to two FEET of snow. On Thursday, winds will be gusting 50 - 70 mph. Bottom line, if you don't need to be on the roads Thursday - don't! The weather should clear up Friday morning. There is a lot of moisture in this storm, so the snow will be heavier spring-like snow, not powder. That means more slush and ice on the roads. We anticipate multiple highway closures along the I-70 corridor throughout the day Thursday.   Four-wheel drive does not mean four-wheel stop, nor does it provide superman vision through white-out conditions.  If you must travel on Thursday, pack water and snacks, blankets, top off your fuel before you hit the highway, and be prepared to be sitting stuck in traffic on the highway for a long time.

WEEKEND TRAVEL ALERT - I-70 CORRIDOR

CDOT is anticipating extremely heavy traffic this weekend along the I-70 mountain corridor.   Westbound traffic will be heavy Friday afternoon and Sat/Sun mornings. Return traffic has historically stretched to over 140 minutes from Frisco to C-470 the past two years. CDOT encourages travelers to "Change their Peak" and travel outside of the peak times of 1p-7p.
