Approximately 80,000 people are in solitary in U.S. prisons each day, with some spending years there. This article in the Washington Post shows how AFSC is bringing attention to this practice of torture as we work to end its use. For the past few years activists in Seattle have been working to stop a proposed $212 million youth detention center in King County. They recently had some major wins including reducing the number of beds by 1/3 and changes to sentencing policies for youth.
