We took a chance on this restaurant despite the less than favorable review from the last person. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly wait staff and manager, the great tasting sushi and the comparable wait time. We ordered several rounds of sushi and a bento box...all of which were delicious. We would have given it five stars but, it is a little pricey. However, some of the sushi was complex, the presentation was aesthetically pleasing, and each tasted unique.

New Akasaka Sushi is amazing! I have been living in Salt Lake City for almost 3 years now and have tried quite a few sushi restaurants. Most have been just okay, while some I would never return to based on price/quality. New Akasaka is different. My girlfriend introduced me to New Akasaka about a year ago and I/we now eat there at least once a week. Atmosphere is good and the sushi is amazing! Service is fast, well fast for sushi that is. If you are looking for a good deal on sushi rolls check out New Akasaka on Tuesday (all day), Friday (3-5 PM), and Saturday (3-5 PM) for buy one get one free rolls. If you love sushi you need to try this place!

Very yummy and fresh sushi. The owner and staff are a delight as well as helpful in suggesting new rolls. We've ordered the bento boxes many times and the salmon is always perfect. You can't beat the sushi special either with 3 rolls, drinks, miso, and dessert. The spicy crunch is one of the best.

Simply said: Don’t go here! If you value your health, don’t eat “sushi” from this place!! We ordered several rolls and niguri for a group of 5. The Salmon was so old it was falling apart. Each roll tasted of old fish, even though two were crab and eal. The cashier took money then touched food items and dishes, such as the microwave which sits right by the register, with unwashed hands. The prep area used by the ‘chefs’ is run down and dirty, and the cold storage area, used to keep the fish at a constant temp, was DIRTY and looked as if it wasn’t working properly. Why did we “eat” there then? We didn’t. We are a few pieces, poked at a few items on our plates, paid and left quickly. The seating area is cramped, poorly light and the poorly maintained dining/Karaoke show room was digusting!

Warning! Under new management. Higher prices, smaller portions. Service is terrible. We had to wait over an hour for three bento boxes to arrive. Sushi wasn't fresh. Portions were half what they used to be. When we complained about the wait, the new or owner/chef was so surly and rude. Don't bother. The place Used to be a good deal but now is ruined.

Amazing food at a great price - before we moved we used to go here once a week without fail. It can get busy sometimes so there may be a delay on getting food out to you - just relax and know it's worth the wait.

Akasaka used to be my favorite sushi restaurant, but ever since it got new owners the food has really gone down hill. A friend and I liked to get sushi every week for lunch and Akasaka used to be one of our favorite places, they have a buy one get one free lunch deal that you just cant beat. However, we have both now experienced food poisoning after eating the sushi. Love the service and the food, but it's not worth 8 hours of vomiting.

Simple classic sushi with a local feel. YJ is generous and honest. Great place to frequent. Now adding karaoke, never done it, but sounds fun.
