This place is comfort food to me - its Taiwanese style, but more mainland Chinese immigrated to Taiwan rather than true Taiwanese fare. My favorite dishes: wu xi ribs; stir-fried bean curd with pork (can substitute pork for chicken too); the lion's head meatballs (big meatballs marinated in a soy based sauce). I haven't really had the Chinese breakfast here since I usually come for dinner. Never a wait!

this is our go to place for a nice big bowl of beef noodle soup. this is a good place to go if you live in the neighborhood. even if you don't, this restaurant is RIGHT behind the 38 muni 6th ave. bus stop, next door to the corner kfc/taco bell. during the weekdays, there is barely ANYONE at this restaurant. when we went during dinner time, there were maybe 2-3 other tables taken. but during the weekends, this place is absolutely PACKED! the owner is really nice, very adept at speaking to his customers in mandarin, cantonese, and english. i am not too crazy about every item on the menu. but if you order the right things, you're golden. i'm happy with the beef stew pot, their walnut prawns, and of course, the beef noodle soup. it is enormous, spicy, and they really do beef brisket right here! we also really enjoy and appreciate the free almond jelly dessert they give everyone at the end of the meal.

I've been eating at Five Happiness for many years. One dish San Bei Ji Three Cup Chicken is almost unique in the Bay Area at Five Happiness. ( I know of only three greater Bay Area restaurants that have this dish). It is dish said to be created as a last meal for Wen Tianxiang, a southern Sung general who fought against the Mongol invasion. It is a chicken dish made with a sauce of one cup soy sauce, and one cup rice wine, sesame oil or chili oil, and although it does not appear in traditional recipes for this dish I taste vinegar in the Five Happiness version. Garlic and basil are additional delicious elements. It comes from Jiangxi Province but is also very famous in Taiwan. The sauce is really good! Also, Five Happiness has close to the best fried pot stickers in our area. Exactly the right level of browning for the outer dough and served nice and hot.

This is a great place to go for late night food! I think this place closes at 3am every night. This place gets a 3 star for the quality of food during the day. There's plenty of other places to go for quality Chinese food, especially in the South Bay. However, I give this place a 5 star for places to go after 10pm. So I guess it averages out to 4 stars. The reason why I give it a 5 star is because this is the best place to go for late night snacks. There's another restaurant next door, but if you go to China Palace after midnight, the majority of the people will be in China Palace. Also, there's a HK style cafe right across the plaza called Top Cafe. In my opinion it's over priced for what it is.
