Getting too little sleep across your adult life will significantly raise your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Why is this?

Amyloid deposits accumulate in the brains of those suffering from the disease, killing the surrounding cells. However during deep sleep, research has shown that such deposits are effectively cleaned from the brain. Not getting enough sleep allows them to build up, and as they build up, it becomes harder for the brain to clean itself when you do get sleep. This vicious cycle is now believed to be the cause of alzheimers.

So yet another reason why good, healthy sleep is vital for out health & wellness.

Trying to stay warm during winter? Here are a few tips from the Restore team….

(1) No Tea & Coffee – Sorry for the bad news, but while having a hot tea or coffee may make you feel warmer, in fact it is doing the opposite. That feeling of heat is more to do with the caffeine, because caffeine increases blood flow to the skin and thus makes you feel hot. In fact, they are not helping you to warm up at all, but instead your body is actually losing heat. Try sticking to decaffeinated or herbal hot drinks instead.

(2) No Alcohol – unfortunately alcohol has the same affect as tea and coffee, so once again try a herbal hot drink or something with no caffeine. Why not join in with Dry July this year?

(3) Eating regular meals will also help keep you warm. Healthy hearty foods such as soup and stews are great for warming you up. Try to include carbohydrates in your dishes too. Carbohydrate is converted into heat by your body. Porridge and soup are great winter-warmers.

(4) Exercising in winter is always so much harder – getting out of bed in the cold and dark takes a certain form of tenacity and commitment. However it actually is the best answer for warming up your body – even more so that staying underneath that warm donna. As well as giving you a rush of endorphins which boosts your mood, exercise will get the blood pumping around your body which heats up your skin, activates your muscles and increases your appetite.

(5) Massage – another effective way of stimulating blood supply to the skin and encouraging cell repair and regeneration is massage. If exercising in winter is just not going to happen, thank you very much, just have someone else do the work for you. That will iron out all the kinks and have your ready for Spring in no time….

…..of course Restore has the BEST massage therapists in the entire world…..
