More specifically Jack Horner's idea of reverse engineering extant coelurosaurs.

Have the faster-than-light neutrinos finally been explained? Maybe. But I'm not sure.

A paper just posted on the arXiv server postulates that the experimenters who apparently found neutrinos moving faster than light didn't account for relativity. They used a GPS satellite to get the timing, but that satellite is moving at orbital speeds, which introduces a small but important amount of relativistic time dilation (time flows more slowly due to the relative motion of the observer). When you do the math, you get that relativity almost exactly accounts for the discrepancy the original experiment found.

If true, we're kinda done. It would explain how the neutrinos seemed to move FTL. BUT, I'm not so sure. The experimenters were adamant that they accounted for all relativistic effects, and AFAIK they haven't responded to this new claim yet. So don't think this is over just yet.

When the "ClimateGate" news first broke in 2009, I smelled "manufactroversy" all over it. I was right. And this week, the NSF concluded its investigation into climatologist Dr. Michael Mann, who was at the ClimateGate epicenter. Their findings? No evidence of fakery, fraud, or misconduct of any kind.

Global warming = real. ClimateGate = not so much.

Climate deniers can, to put it bluntly, "stuff it". While we may not know exactly the long-term impacts (probably mass extinctions including us and life can proceed to another act. At least, that's my hypothesis.) the science is concrete and the climate is WARMING! Science Iliteracy is a problem as evident by the "climate-gate" crap.

Working on a long over-due Blog Post finally covering Evolution and Natural Selection and emphasizing that not only is it a FACT, but the differences between the often misused and abused terms "theory" and "hypothesis" hoping to increase Science Literacy in Biology. I'll post a link to it here when I'm done.

This is actually clever.

All year long, we try to make food that is appetizing and pleasing to the eye. Then for Halloween, we reverse that and serve food that is ugly, scary, or otherwise appropriate for the holiday. While most of these treats are more cute than scary, they are part of my annual creative Halloween food roundup at mental_floss.

Just ran into some people handing out flyers calling for a "revolution". Well, admittedly I don't know exactly they're plans nor anything about them really. Of course, this event reminded me of this:
