Here's a photo I took on my morning walk in Portland today, with the Coolpix S9500.  I've been away from Photography Chat for a while, due to travel and being busy.  Traveling without my DSLR reminded me how much fun it can be to take photos with a point-and-shoot camera -- just walking around and discovering scenes and moments, without thinking about gear or settings.  I'm also finding that I like the 16x9 aspect ratio more and more.  We're used to seeing it in the form of HDTV, so it feels natural, even though it is not normal for most cameras.  (The S9500 has a 16x9 mode, but I did not use it here, instead I cropped the photo.)

Event photo from last night - I used the Nikon 20mm f/2.8 prime, which I love for things like this, it gives me a lot of options in a small space.  Lighting is with 2 SB-700s, beauty dish on the left, 60" umbrella on the right, and also the hot light visible at the top of the scene (not mine, part of the venue lighting).

If you like mobile photography, this article is inspirational

I got some good advice a while ago that I'll share here.  I was showing someone my photos, who stopped me at a particular portrait and said "Do you know her?"

I said "Yes, but why do you ask?"

She said, "Because it's not that great a photo, and you only like it because you like the person."

I realized that this was true, and I wasn't being objective enough about my own photos.  When we look at our own work, sometimes we can be "seeing" something that isn't actually present in the photo, like our feelings about the person or place.  And that's why it can be very helpful to get a critique from someone who doesn't know you or the subject.
