So with even a $399 tablet doing 2560x1600 pixel displays, can we please just make that the new standard laptop resolution? Even at 11"? Please. Stop with the "retina" crap, just call it "reasonable resolution". The fact that laptops stagnated ten years ago (and even regressed, in many cases) at around half that in both directions is just sad.

I still don't want big luggable laptops, but that 1366x768 is so last century. Christ, soon even the cellphones will start laughing at the ridiculously bad laptop displays.

And the next technology journalist that asks you whether you want fonts that small, I'll just hunt down and give an atomic wedgie. I want pixels for high-quality fonts, and yes, I want my fonts small, but "high resolution" really doesn't equate "small fonts" like some less-than-gifted tech pundits seem to constantly think.

In fact, if you have bad vision, sharp good high-quality fonts will help. #noexcuses

Done some work on +Anhero inc.'s website. Got some design update done. Feels fresh. The website, http://anhero.net/ . Same URL as before.

Quick changelog:
- Menu has more space
- White-ish gray background
- Themed posts (All RedBox posts are themed)
- "One-shot" themed posts now easy to do. ( http://anhero.net/2011/08/12/bivouac-urbain-2011/ )
- Comments done by us are different... Though not much commenting action has been going on.
- Nicely degrades on IE6... again. (Lost degradation along the way with minor updates)

If you see something wrong design-wise, don't hesitate to comment.

Gmail's new look!

Today, we launched our new Gmail UI (http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/gmails-new-look.html). You can opt-in to the new UI from a link at the bottom right corner (if you don’t see it yet, wait for a little bit!) Our blog post lists all the new, exciting features like the new, simplified conversation view, elasticity, new advanced search and many more (see screenshots). A huge compliment to the awesome Gmail team for pulling off this big redesign in a pretty short time frame. Try it out and let me know if you like it!

Sidenote: Within Gmail, this project was known as The Pony Project (because, well, who doesn't want to have a pony?) Towards the end of the project we had an internal contest to address all the outstanding usability issues, bugs and visual improvements. The prize for the engineer who closed the most was the "My Little Rogue" pony from Mari Kasurinen that you see in the pictures.

Unbelievable! New blog post: BoxFactory Development Log 3 — http://samuel.dionne-riel.com/blog/2011/10/30/BoxFactory-devlog-3.html — I hit a milestone; I'm not hurt though! Also: Read this.

Hmmmm. Note to self (and the internets). Alsa, Asus P5N7A-VM... do not activate the "Headphone" toggle channel if you don't wan't a loud hissing with your sound.
