From its extensive wine list, right down to its freshly-made desserts, Rouge Restaurant is a taste of France in the heart of Galway City.

And, with a two-course meal from just €19, it may also be the best value in town.

Located on Dominic Street, Rouge accepts food orders until midnight. It is the perfect place to retire after a late show – maybe just for a coffee, a glass of wine, or even to share a cheese board or cured meat platter.

Rouge prides itself on its 100 wines, many specially-imported from small producers in France, and each with a story of their own to tell. Our trained staff, including an in-house sommelier, can advise you on which will suit your chosen dish – and budget.

Head chef, Emmanuel, personally selects the daily fish dish from our supplier in Rossaveal Harbour, Connemara, and prepares the perfect sauce to accompany it.

While, our pastry chef, Alex, is responsible for creating the sumptuous sweet choices – including a daily special – available on our menu.

Come visit Rouge at 38 Lower Dominick Street, in Galway’s historic West End.

To book, either visit or ring 091 530681. You can also find us on or Twitter (@RougeGalway).

I liked what I was served, but didn't like that the salmon was served with scales. Great for extra protein and roughage, but not for an easy meal (I'm from generations of Spanish fishermen so know it's a matter of taste, but in a restaurant?! Makes me think cheap and badly prepared.) However, the rest of the food was great, fries delicious, evening's bread best I've eaten in a long time.

Food was avarage but ok, nothing special, small portions however. Nice romantic atmosphere. Service could be better.

Service exemplary. Staff friendly. Chefs cooking excellent. Good quality of food though a little small in portion even with side orders but that's maybe cause I ordered the steak. Desserts were delicious. Did not try wine as was driving.

Ate here last night, and they've apparently only been open for the last 14 days so I reckon it's early days yet. Lovely interior - very french "cave" style. Impressive wine list as you'd expect, with an especially lovely cote du rhone for just €3.50/glass and served at a perfect temp too. We were desperate for late night food, and they serve till midnight, and stay open till 1.30. We only had the cheese and meat platters, with a side salad, so I can't comment on the full menu, but these were nicely presented, good value and reassuringly authentic. Staff looked super tired, but were pleasant and smily, if a little over stretched. Based on our experience I'd recommend this place for sure.

Fourth or fifth visit over two years. Used to be exciting as you never knew exactly you might get and I loved all the little pre-starters you got. My visiting Son (Canada) with my Husband went last Friday. My fish was awful and cold. My husband's sirloin was tough and cold. And my Son's fillet was overcooked and cold. Also - how can they not give you vegetables?

Overrated in my opinion, the first time I was there (shortly after it opened) the steak was delicious and excellent value, but the last couple of times the food hasn't lived up the same quality.

Awesome place, and quite good quality-price ratio..for 15€ you've got a menu with steak or fish, whatever you choose between some dishes. The complements are really nice, I would recommend the french fries, hand made and with a great taste. The wine is maybe a bit expensive but also extraordinary.. to sum up, gotta get there..
