Soloist Spotlight: Sarah Lobegeiger De Rodriguez

Sarah Lobegeiger de Rodriguez's interest in the human voice extends beyond her operatic career. As well as her degree in music from Victorian College of the Arts, and her Masters of Music Interpretation-Classical Singing (New Bulgarian University), she holds a Bachelor of English Literature (Curtin University) and a Master of Speech Pathology (La Trobe University).

When she’s not singing on stage, Sarah moonlights (or perhaps that should be “sunlights”) as a speech pathologist, as principal of Voice Science here in Melbourne.

Sarah's opera roles include Valetto and Amore (L'incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi) performed at the March Music Days International Festival of Ruse and the Sofia Music Weeks International Festival, Bulgaria, Gretel (Hansel and Gretel, Humperdink) for the Ruse State Opera, Bulgaria, and Lucy (The Beggar’s Opera, Benjamin Britten).

Sarah has appeared as a soloist in numerous concerts and festivals, particularly in Sofia, Bulgaria at Boris Christoff Hall, the National Palace of Culture and also alongside the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Nights of Barscarsija Festival.

On Sunday 27 August, Sarah joins us to perform Telemann's Gott will Mensch und sterblich werden, as well as Arias from Oratorios by Handel.

Soloist Spotlight: Anne Gilby

Oboist Anne Gilby is no newcomer to The Melbourne Musicians’ stage, having performed many times both as a soloist and in our wind section over the last two decades.

We’re always grateful when Anne joins us, as her talents are also in wide demand elsewhere!

She has held the positions of Principal Oboist with the Bremerhaven Orchestra, the Elizabethan Melbourne Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra; and has played as guest principal oboist with all major Australian Orchestras.

In four weeks’ time, Anne joins us again to perform Telemann’s Oboe Concerto in F minor, as well as the Concerto for Oboe & Violin in C minor, together with violinist Anne Harvey-Nagl.

Our fundraising campaign via the Australian Cultural Fund has been extended until the end of December, so you still have a chance to help us continue to support emerging (and established) artists in performing beautiful music.

https://australianculturalfund.org.au/projects/2016-concert-series/

As always, we're grateful for any amount you are able to contribute, whether that's $10 or $10,000! We receive no other funding, so it is only via donations and ticket sales that we are able to continue our concerts and to support emerging musicians.

To close off the year, here's a fun polka we enjoyed performing at our Ah, Vienna concert last month.
