go get 'em, barney!

"There is a hypocrisy issue," Barney Frank said. "Dennis Hastert was a member of the House who voted for the Defense of Marriage act. He subsequently as Speaker twice put before the House of Representatives the constitutional amendment that would have cancelled retroactively all the same sex marriages that had taken place legally. ... The rank hypocrisy of this man using his power to persecute other people for doing what he was doing. Secondly, and it is relevant to note that in terms of the hypocrisy area, you mentioned Gingrich had to quit. It turns out Gingrich was at the time having an affair with the woman he is now married who was an employee of the House Agriculture Committee. And then Livingston who was supposed to replace him had to quit because he was having an affair not just with a woman but with a lobbyist who was lobbying him. So then in an effort to get somebody [who was clean], they get Hastert. The point is that all this was happening while they were impeaching Bill Clinton for having oral sex. So I think that it now looks like if you take Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Dennis Hastert, and Robert Livingston the the Republican Speakers or would be speakers, Clinton is a choir boy."
Barney Frank called out Dennis Hastert and the GOP for their hypocrisy on moral values and gay issues in a manner only he could. He was referring to the indictment of former Republican Speaker of ...

this could happen across the country as insurance companies tire of paying out these types of claims.

City Hikes Taxes for Cop Beating Payout
A Michigan city is giving residents a one-time tax hike to help pay for a settlement over a videotaped instance of police brutality. The July 1 charge will bring in more than $6 million to cover the traffic-stop beating. Although the city of Inkster has liability insurance for these kinds of situations, it only kicks in at payments of more than $2 million—and the settlement over Officer William Melendez’s assault didn’t meet the bar. Last week, a judge reviewing the incident ordered Melendez to stand trial for misconduct, assault, and strangulation.
July 1 tax bill will levy 6.45 mills to help pay nearly $1.4 million payout to Floyd Dent over taped officer beating

+Ron Kaiser That is sad news, when good cops give up rather than fight to get the bad cops out, the system may be beyond saving.

I don't begrudge him one bit though.

i just don't get why people pack this place and wait an hour for a table that serves incredibly large portions of uninspired, mediocre, americanized italian food. i've gone several times where the wrong sandwich was brought out, the wrong soup, right down to bringing out the wrong utensils despite a couple of requests. i've been in even busier places on a weekend night where service runs flawlessly. service is courteous enough, just not always competent. i'm always willing to give the local places my business, but corporate competitors like pasta pomodoro manage to have higher quality food at a better value.
