Democrats and consumer advocates said that the recent settlement Wells Fargo agreed to pay — including a $100-million fine by the CFPB, the agency’s biggest ever — shows the value of the bureau in holding banks accountable for abusing consumers.

And for that reason, those supporters say Republicans, and Hensarling in particular, are hypocrites for trying to use the Wells Fargo scandal to reduce the bureau’s power.

“Hensarling reminds me of the kid who kills his parents and then wants to collect orphan benefits,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), one of the CFPB’s biggest backers. “He’s tried to underfund it. He’s tried to undercut. He’s done all he could to block bank regulations.”

more political parlor tricks so that they can all go back to their constituents and say they're tough on white collar crime.
Wells Fargo & Co. Chief Executive John Stumpf took the full brunt of congressional anger over the bank’s fake-accounts scandal at a Senate hearing last week and will face more outrage on Thursday before a House panel.

i found this the other day while browsing my natlamp dvd. it's probably not very readable from the images, but it goes to show just how despised the man was almost 30 years ago.

It's funny. I had only to look up the cover art and he knew immediately it wasn't in his collection. Fanboys, you're all the same.

BTW, he has instilled a love of Natl. Lampoon, MAD, Heavy Metal and several other "oldies" in our son and daughter. Which one has the lists of real news events and signs, etc.?

HP has apologized to customers for a software update that made some of its printers stop working with ink cartridges from competing suppliers, even if the printers had accepted the same cartridges …

much of southern california's streets are very forgiving about navigation where if you miss a turn, there are several other ways to get around it. left turns are hell, especially along the older parts of hollywood near the freeway junctions (highland and santa monica have a mixed protected and unprotected left turn iirc). pulling out into the middle of the intersection without clearing it, to make an unprotected left is technically illegal in california, and actually pretty dangerous, but people insist on doing it.
Anyone who's navigated LA traffic knows the horror of...the unprotected left turn. It's almost an Angeleno right of passage.

“It all flipped, so fast,” said Mr. Odgaard, a patrician 70-year-old who favors khakis and boat shoes. “Suddenly, we were in the minority. That was kind of a scary feeling. It makes you wonder where the Christians went.”
the rapture came for them and left the unworthy behind :P
In small-town Iowa, conservative Christians say they feel abandoned, with no true champion in the presidential race and a country that they believe has turned its back.

What!? It's scary being a minority in the US? Perhaps they should've addressed that issue while they were the majority.

decent place. smaller portions than what you would get in California. the guacamole was surprisingly fresh and tasty, the tomato salsa not as much. i had a chicken quesadilla and a beer and it was a pleasant experience. difficult cuisine to do in hk, but they manage!

great food, great service. i prefer cafe san jose's pancakes over holder's and cup and saucer. huge menu of classic lunch and brunch items. the benedicts are wonderful, and i love my country/home fries/house potatoes nice and cruncy. the specials are often interesting.

i just don't get why people pack this place and wait an hour for a table that serves incredibly large portions of uninspired, mediocre, americanized italian food. i've gone several times where the wrong sandwich was brought out, the wrong soup, right down to bringing out the wrong utensils despite a couple of requests. i've been in even busier places on a weekend night where service runs flawlessly. service is courteous enough, just not always competent. i'm always willing to give the local places my business, but corporate competitors like pasta pomodoro manage to have higher quality food at a better value.
