Supposedly Caterham racing is a non-contact sport but like all motorsport people can find themselves challenging and defending a touch too hard.

I was up on Druids watching the first Tracksport race of the weekend and waiting for the guys I know to come through when this unfolded in front of me. This is a middle shot from the series I managed to capture through the fence (no media pass/tabard unfortunately) with parts flying everywhere.

The red wheel arch from car #2 worked its way around the Druids hairpin through the course of the race and was eventually removed by the marshalls before the next race started.

Bit torn at the moment so trying to get people's opinions. Still debating keeping the Canon 50D vs getting a Nikon (then selling the 50D).

If I stuck with the 50D I've been looking at a variety of 50mm lenses but not sure which one to go for.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 vs Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 vs Canon 50mm f/1.4

I have no issues using a manual focus only lens, it's quality at all apertures that I'm looking for. Obvious alternative is a 30mm on a crop frame.

Usage will predominantly be motorsport "portraiture", i.e. stuff around the paddock, plus possibly some more traditional portraiture.

Any thoughts? Also if the opinion is a swap to Nikon which body should I be going with (note: no plastic frames need apply, too light for my liking!)

Would +Lucas Fox care to comment on the accuracy of this map?

After a disastrous couple of months where it seemed I couldn't get anything right with landscape or architecture photography (which to be honest almost had me throwing the 50D out the window in frustration) I've gone back into my comfort zone to lift my spirits and a good day was had on Saturday at Silverstone taking action shots of the Speed Euroseries races.

I would have liked to get some shots of the LMP1/LMP2 cars and GTEs but I was giving a younger attendee an education in motorsport (and the difference between aero and non-aero cars). Also next time I'll hopefully be able to get a ticket for the Sunday for the 6 hour race. Pictures to be posted Soon™

Unfortunately my main American friend already knows how to drive stick so this would be kind of lost on him. However the number of people moving to auto box in the UK I find kind of shocking.

That would probably be because you rag it when you're driving on paddles rather than let it sort itself out. Though reading the spec the BMW one makes sense as the autobox is apparently an EIGHT speed box vs the six speed manual.

First few photos from a walk about London last night. Quite a few will be held to practice HDR on. Comments and critique welcomed as ever.

Very nice tripod. I use a Velbon, due to it being so light, sturdy and collapses to a very small size. I can put around 1360 grams and had no issues standard zoom lens, not that I have tried it with a big heavy lens. It's espcially great if you are travelling around.

Mine is similar to the following:

After a few torrid months something seemed to "click" at Brands Hatch yesterday (and we're not talking the shutter here) with the majority of taken shots keepers.

No equipment changes and even trying to get shots "through the fence" (which is the most annoying aspect of motorsport photography I find).

Comments welcome. More to be added over the next couple of weeks and more on my Flickr account.

London's First G+ Photo Walk!

#LondonPhotoWalk

Over the past 6 weeks, +Helena Martins and I have been silently working behind the scenes on London's first photo walk. It's taken a lot of hard work and patience but we have finally secured a permit for a G+ group to photograph at Canary Wharf. The date will be Saturday 26th November 2011, starting at 2pm, meeting outside Canary Wharf Tube station.

We are currently talking to Google London about some goodies though can't promise anything. If +Brian Rose or +Vincent Mo can influence the London office it would be much appreciated! ;)

If you're interested in taking part then please visit the page below for more details and to sign up.

We look forward to meeting you all!

Something for +Lasse Løndahl Henriksen to invest in? Looks good fun but I don't think I'd like the insurance quote for the Red Epic camera should the drone fail!

Spotted this in my stream shared by someone else so had to have a read. Theres's plenty of information in here whether you're looking to do street photography in particular or just looking for a different perspective for your own work.

Thank you +Thomas Leuthard for taking the time to write this book and thank you for making it free. You've also given the best insight I've read yet on Creative Commons licensing.

Introduction
There's many parts to who I am I guess, some people know one facet, others know them all. So who am I and what do I get up to?

Well for starters I am 32 (at time of writing, your experience may vary) who likes photography, travelling and computer games ... oh and the odd good book/film.

On a professional front I trained as mechanical engineer and then expanded that to the field of Health & Safety (aka OSHA) and as such am a Chartered Member of the Institiute of Occupational Safety & Health.

Further to this I am currently an amateur photographer with a passion of landscape and motorsport photography. I'm working on improving my portraiture as I feel this is my weakest area currently.

I'd like to feel I have the determination and capacity to learn/improve to one day go professional with my photography as while my current career is something of a vocation I have always felt strongly drawn to photography.

My greatest influences are Trey Ratcliff of Stuck In Customs and Garry Black. Trey for reigniting my interest in photography and the digital medium with his stunning HDR work and Garry Black for giving me the confidence that with practice and determination I can in time go the professional route no matter my background.

I have a passion for all things automotive and have been watching various forms of motorsport (two wheels and four, more in the case of truck racing) since I was very little. In terms of other sports I like watching hockey (ice not field), road cycling (e.g. Tour de France and other long distance events) and most winter sports. I ski and have tried my hand at snow boarding.

I also occasionally write for Just Press Start under the name JPS Dante which is also my Twitter name (underscore instead of space).
