Did you know that India built a 8' wall along its 2750 mile border with Bangladesh?  This is old news- but I was unaware until I saw a story in Fortune about climate change and its expected impact in Bangladesh which is highly subject to flooding/typhoons.

Growth of Walmart
The growth of Walmart: Visualized, animated

Walmart is huge. But you have to see it to believe it.  I've seen a number of these graphics, it is nice to get one that you can simply embed into Google+.

(In the small chance you don't see the below picture in its animated form, click here to see it: http://goo.gl/W2UcK)

I'm always impressed at how systematically Walmart has grown. Starting at one core and then step by step outwards until American domination is achieved.  Secretly it also shows how much Walmart has relied on its logistics infrastructure to win where other simply could not.

One other element of the visualization below is that you can do it in Excel if you would like to.  Learn how at Excel Hero: http://goo.gl/3hvzi

You can also download a spreadsheet from the Excel Hero website with this visualization (and the raw data): Direct xlsb link: http://goo.gl/FLN1j

PS: this data only goes to 2006. Walmart is way more dominant than the picture below would suggest. At the moment around 4,000 stores in the US (the graphic stops at 3,176), and 8,500 globally.
