Since textbooks sometimes get a bad rap in the homeschooling world, I wanted you to know there is nothing wrong with using textbooks if they fill a need in your family. There are plenty of ways to use textbooks and still reap the rewards of a customized home education.

"Imagine a balance scale if you will. On one side, sits the pile of money you would have earned in 20 years. On the other side, a framed photo of your family. Which side is heavier? You decide... For me, the choice was clear and easy. But, which will you choose? If you’re still here, you’re probably thinking a lot about that family photo..."

"For the logical brain, supported by a planet full of people who are highly successful doing it, goal setting IS a highly successful activity. If one is building a house, conducting a system analysis, writing a lengthy report, or doing anything with multiple steps that takes more than a few minutes, goal setting is THE best way to complete a project. You get that, right? There’s no contest.

But, goal-setting everything in life? Not so much. Not everything needs to be planned out to that level of detail. Or planned at all. Attempting that is just downright crazy.  It’s unrealistic. Why? Because excessive goal-setting saps all the life out of…well, life. "

Sometimes all it takes is a special song, one with a particularly important musical message or vibe.  I've put together a playlist you can use for yourself, or at your next women's conference, meeting or event. Today, I’m sharing examples of self-sabotage, where ones background and way of thinking can  undermine the homeschool, thus, the kids. While you’re reading, consider whether these threats also speak to you, and whether maybe this kind of sabotage manifests in your homeschool, too! #homeschooling

"If you’re like many women, you  cram more than your share of projects and deadlines into every day. With a to-do list a mile long, you move through life focusing on completion, meeting (often ridiculously high) standards, covering all the bases, making sure you never neglect anyone or anything along the way...

...there’s a problem with all that.  Because, no matter how strangely satisfying certain behaviors can be, over time, those same behaviors can become destructive, too. Chronic over-doing and continual busy-ness are perfect examples of behaviors that serve a purpose now, but have a negative impact later. It doesn’t seem fair, to be honest. Because patterns like that are always useful…that is, until they blind-side us years later, and the damage is already done."

Daily Practice for 2016:

"I think many of us dwell on sadness, the grief, or the bad. This makes it hard to look forward to a new day or a new year. For all it’s worries, problems and regrets, we become attached to the bad, making it hard for us to let yesterday go. For all the failures and how we feel about them, it makes letting go of last year much harder, too. Not consciously, friends, but emotionally."

Why not try my practice in the new year? I think (actually, I know) it will change your life in 2016.

Best wishes, Marie-Claire
