James,

I am sketching and I signed up already for APRIL and MAY. Have purchased the suggested reading, a couple of small multi-media sketchbooks and have been doing: graphite; pen & ink; and my water colors. I have my Adult Niece signed up with me for Karla's "Cardinal In a Pine Tree" and she is still considering joining me for the two months under your tutelage for "roaming around White Bear sketching." I am extremely anxious to get to my classes. I was going to sign up beginning with March, but I really have to watch the COLD. I'm also "talking it up" with two of my neighbors. If this class doesn't "get out of the hangar" I'll be upset to the point of hiring you as a "private Professional Tutor." I'm staying motivated every day. Am holding off on any more purchases until I get the lowdown from you. My sketchbooks are MOLESKINE and HAND BOOK. Nice! I see where you started your Son while in Miami last year -- that's great. Hope my Niece decides to join me, you and "the Movement !" What fun !

Best Regards,

Steve

Introduction

Please see my portfolio site on https://www.behance.net/jamesnutt

I am either an architect who arts or an artist who architects. I am still figuring that out, but my life dream has always been to draw and have those drawings become real.

Architecture is a group effort to make drawings become the built environment and my art is a solo effort to indulge in individual creativity and control. I am an extrovert with my art and in the Urban Sketchers community I have found my people. The goal of “seeing the world one drawing at a time” calls to me because most of my art is small (4”x6” to 8” x 10”), packed into the small moments when life stops and work has me travel, and is focused on peoples relationships in and with spaces.  A small bag of art supplies and a sketchbook are my constant companions and for the past 2 years I have drawn everyday.  Recently I have been taking commissions, and selling prints.

I practice architecture at BWBR in downtown St Paul. I teach Urban Sketching and IPad drawings at the White Bear Center for the Arts (whitebeararts.org) and share a studio in the Solar Arts Building above Indeed Brewery in NE Minneapolis with 3 other artists and a fine arts photographer. I am an invited blogger on Midwest Urban Sketchers  (http://urbansketchers-midwest.blogspot.com/) and the Twin Cities Urban Sketchers sites (http://urbansketchers-twincities.blogspot.com/), but I share more process images here on Nuttdraws.blogspot.com.

In 2001 my small family moved to Minneapolis from NW Arkansas.  We love it here and somehow I still have my accent. Even as an Arkansan I have been in Minneapolis long enough to understand that -5 degrees is somehow more beautiful and more comfortable than 20 degrees. This may sound crazy but the humidity that soaks the cold into your bones goes away and the sky just gets so clear and the light so even. In addition, for half the year snow covers the yard I don’t want to take care of, there are no bugs, and it doesn’t rain!

I am addicted to drawing and love sharing it.

If you like the work or are interested in prints or custom work please contact me at nuttdraws@hotmail.com.
