I am either an architect who arts or an artist who architects. I am still figuring that out, but my life dream has always been
to draw and have those drawings become real.
Architecture is a group effort to
make drawings become the built environment and my art is a solo effort to
indulge in individual creativity and control. With the Urban Sketchers
community I have found my people. The goal of “seeing the world one drawing at
a time” calls to me because most of my art is small (4”x6” to 8” x 10”), packed
into the small moments when life stops and work has me travel, and is focused
on peoples relationships in and with spaces. A small bag of art supplies and a sketchbook are my constant
companions and for the past 2 years I have drawn everyday. Recently I have been taking commissions, and selling prints.
I practice architecture in a small exciting firm in White
Bear Lake, MN called NewStudio Architecture (newstudioarchitecture.com). I
teach Urban Sketching and IPad drawings at the White Bear Center for the Arts
(whitebeararts.org) and share a studio in the Solar Arts Building above Indeed
Brewery in NE Minneapolis with 4 other artists and photographers. I am an
invited blogger on Midwest Urban Sketchers (http://urbansketchers-midwest.blogspot.com/) and the Twin
Cities Urban Sketchers sites (http://urbansketchers-twincities.blogspot.com/) , but I share more
process images here on Nuttdraws.blogspot.com
In 2001 my small family moved to Minneapolis from NW
Arkansas. We love it here and
somehow I still have my accent. Even as an Arkansan I have been in Minneapolis
long enough to understand that -5 degrees is somehow more beautiful and more
comfortable than 20 degrees. This may sound crazy but the humidity that soaks
the cold into your bones goes away and the sky just gets so clear and the light
so even. In addition, for half the year snow covers the yard I don’t want to
take care of, there are no bugs, and it doesn’t rain!
I am addicted to drawing and love sharing it.
