The New York State Senate struck down a bill this week that would have loosened the statute of limitations of child molestation. New York has one of the worst SOLs in the country, giving victims only until they are 23 to file a lawsuit.

The bill would have given child victims until the age of 28 to file criminal claims, and 50 to file civil claims. The Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts were big opponents of the proposed change

A sex abuse lawsuit filed in Seattle this week says the Seventh Day Adventists ignored years of warnings about a pedophile teacher who taught at the church’s small, private schools in California and Washington.

Most recently, Douglas “John” Allison was the principal and one of only two teachers at Mountain View Christian School in Sequim, WA. He was arrested last year for sexually assaulting two 10-year-olds under his desk in the classroom while the other children were distracted watching movies, according to police reports.

Portland's Pioneer Courthouse will get a $1.7 million in exterior improvements. The courthouse was built in 1875 and is the second-oldest federal building west of the Mississippi River.

The Pioneer Courthouse is one of four locations where the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit hears arguments. It's also home to the Portland-based judges on that court. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
