Guilt is a common emotion for parents going through divorce. That guilt can seep into relationships and become toxic to everyone involved. It is common for issues to surface before, during, and after the divorce; and the extent of those issues can jeopardize the ability of both parent and child to move forward. In some …

Equitable Distribution seeks to divide marital assets and debts (meaning any property or liabilities that were acquired during the marriage) in a way that both spouses leave the marriage with relatively equal footing. Each spouse is entitled to some percentage of the property—but it’s not always 50/50 when it comes to the division.

Goldberg Jones and their staff (Jason Heym in particular) handled my divorce with kid gloves.....from the timeliness of responding to my initial inquiry to the fair yet firm push-back he recommended and then seamlessly executed, I always felt in good hands with Jason. He was able to reevaluate my situation and save me thousands in the years to come. I will continue seeking Jason's counsel for any ongoing needs and highly recommend his professionalism, sharp wit, and ability to get things accomplished without any fluff. - L. Lagging Jr.

July 10, 2015 Re: Patrick Lowney Goldberg Jones -Portland Patrick's profile says it all. I had several issues, including an unfavorable child support modification and denial of visitation rights. Patrick took the time to study my situation, deciding which case point to focus on, and the result was a re-establishment of visitation with my children, an award for attorney's fees, and a credit/reduction in my child support obligation. It was more than I could have imagined, and something I was unable to do in previous attempts on my own. The decision to call Goldberg Jones was the best, and I highly recommend them. Sincerely, Daniel Smith

Jason Heym , Lawyer . I highly recommend Jason as a smart divorce legal strategist. His advice that this divorce was mine to own and solve was very clever. It allowed me to think about and quantify my bottom line financial expectation. This allowed me to be in control of my negotiation process because I believed in it.This process became very fluid,it rarely became bogged down in unrealistic expectation, it also allowed me to keep it going as I could move to preset positions quickly. Jason uses an organic method of management which spends the clients funds in a measured way. Divorce is a terrible situation ,the war starts and the sides take shape, friends desert you, stories are made up and slung about like mud wars. Jason Heym has seen a lot in his career and I fully recommend him as a great legal divorce counsel .

Mike was very competent and responsive, and gave me the advice I needed to make a decision on how to proceed with changes to my parenting plan. His advice avoided a costly legal battle, and the process was completed quickly and without incurring a lot of bad feelings by the involved parties. I would recommend his services to others, and would definitely use him if the need for an attorney arose in the future.

As this was my first, and hopefully only, divorce Colin Amos and Jason Heym did an excellent job of helping me understand the entire process up front. Jason listened to and understood my unique situation and offered good advice. Jason was also very fair about billing and not racking up unnecessary charges. In the end, he helped me work out a fair settlement and was a strong advocate during all negotiations. While I hope others don't have to go through a divorce, if they do, I would highly recommend Jason Heym at Goldberg Jones. His knowledge of not just divorce law, but financial and tax implications were invaluable and his attitudes and personality were just what was needed to secure a fair settlement that will allow me to keep my home, have plenty of time with my kids and ensure that they have a bright future. 5 stars.

This is a review for Liam McGill, the attorney who handled my divorce. I have known Liam for many years through our association with the Portland City Squash League. When you play sports with someone, you have a unique opportunity to get to know them - observing them during times of jubilation and defeat, and every situation in between. As such, I know Liam to be a good sport and a gentleman, as well as a person of fairness and integrity. When I found myself in the unhappy situation of becoming separated from my husband, Liam offered his services to help me. I wasn't ready at that time - in fact, it took six months before I could even think about filing for divorce. Liam just said, "If and when you want to talk, I'm here for you." So when I was ready, I called him. I never even thought of contacting anyone else. (Even though I am a woman and the firm specializes in "Divorce for Men.") The day before I was scheduled to meet with Liam at his office, I injured my shoulder, and could not drive into the city. He came to my house instead. He walked me through the paperwork and explained everything to me - focusing on my needs and protecting my assets. He was sensitive to my emotional state, and very kind. Even though I did not ask for alimony or a share of my husband's retirement monies, Liam advocated for me to approach the situation as logically as possible to make sure that I was not selling myself short. When I persisted that I wanted only to make a clean cut of the marriage, he respected my wishes and proceeded accordingly. Divorce is not a process I enjoyed (or one I had expected to occur in my lifetime, for that matter). But having gone through it, I am grateful to have had Liam on my team and by my side. The news media and stories you hear from friends and family about "cutthroat" lawyers and terrible processes certainly can make one apprehensive and even fearful. Yes, it was painful - but only from the emotional aspect of dissolving the marriage I had expected to last forever. From a legal standpoint, I can't imagine it going any smoother. Liam kept me informed, was calm, did not incite negative feelings toward my husband, or make it in any way more unpleasant than it had to be. If I have a family member or friend approaching divorce - and statistically I know that I probably will - I will certainly recommend Liam McGill to help guide them through the process. I know he will advocate for them and take care of the situation with the least amount of stress possible.

When I hired Liam McGill of Goldberg and Jones I was in the position of a full-time working father with minimum time awarded with my son after a difficult custody dispute that I attempted to battle without the help of an attorney. After Liam took over as my lawyer we were able to modify the custody agreement so that I could care for my son on a 50/50 parenting time agreement. Over the years I have needed to modify the custody agreement as both households changed over time. Liam has helped me make these modifications with a 100% success rate. Hiring Liam was such a tremendous value. He has helped me to obtain years of parenting time that I may not have otherwise had with my son.
