A SPECTACULAR HEADLAND
Rocky Cape, Tasmania, Australia

'The Rocky Cape Lighthouse sits on a spectacular headland in the Rocky Cape National Park in north-western Tasmania. The lighthouse was erected in 1968. It is a white square concrete tower, with a mains powered Chance Brothers 400mm catadioptric lens. The lighthouse is in the Rocky Cape National Park. The lighthouse grounds are open all year round and once inside the national park, access is via unsealed roads.' [lighthouses.org.au] (Image#2627)

WONDERFUL REFLECTIONS
Bancoora Beach, Victoria, Australia

I'm drawn to reflections in water, like this one on the beach at Bancoora. There is a rocky outcrop at one end of the beach that splits the beach into two. A small pool of water is trapped by the rocks and creates this wonderful reflection of the early morning sky, just for me! I hope you enjoy scenes like this too. (Image#2626)

AN EXHILARATING EXPERIENCE
Gibson Steps, Victoria, Australia

It isn't all that easy to gauge the scale of the cliffs at Gibson Steps. If you zoom in a little on this image, you will see some people half way along on the beach, which might help a little. There is only one way down to this beach, called Gibson Steps, and those steep steps are in the green area on the cliff face. Although it is a very strenuous climbing back to the top, it is an exhilarating experience, having been dwarfed by the tall rock stacks and cliffs along this stretch of the Great Ocean Road. LESS THAN PRISTINE
Liffey Falls, Tasmania, Australia

The aftermath of a huge deluge of water left tree branches and debris, both above and below the Liffey Falls. Initially, I was a little disappointed, but the mess left behind by the swollen river added something to the image, showing it in less than pristine condition. It gives the viewer an indication of the power that water has, and how rivers can cut through forests with apparent ease. (Image#2624)

THE BLOCK ARCADE
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

'The Block Arcade is a heritage shopping arcade in the central business district of Melbourne. Melbourne's Golden Mile heritage walk runs through the arcade. It was named number 4 in TripAdvisor's 'Australia's top 10 landmarks'. The arcade which was erected between 1891 and 1893 was designed by architect David C. Askew whose brief was to produce something similar to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. The result was one of Melbourne's most richly decorated interior spaces, replete with mosaic tiled flooring, glass canopy, wrought iron and carved stone finishings. The exterior facade of the six storey office has nearly identical facades on Collins and Elizabeth Streets and is one of Australia's best surviving examples of the Victorian Mannerist style.' READY TO FACE THE WORLD
Kennett River, Victoria, Australia

If you are a bit of an introvert, then the solitude of an isolated beach on a cool morning is all you need to recharge your inner battery. Of course, a strong coffee can add dramatically to your early morning demeanour. All of which has nothing to do with today's image, other than there wasn't another soul on the Kennett River beach when I captured this scene as the sun began to rise, and I had a strong coffee shortly after, so I was then ready to face the world again! NORTH
Geelong, Victoria, Australia

'Located at the bay end bottom of Moorabool Street is one of Geelong’s most striking artworks. Entitled “North” this large seven part sculpture was designed by renowned sculpture Mark Stoner in 2000. North consists of seven sail or some people say shark fin like structures ranging from 2.2 to 3.5 metres high and built in rich greys, reds and earthy ochre coloured cement. The sculpture is amazing to walk around because of the clever positioning the profile and dimension of the surrounds so dramatically.' [intown.com.au] (Image#2621)

LADY JULIA PERCY ISLAND
The Crags, Victoria, Australia

On the horizon of today's photograph is a flat topped island called Lady Julia Percy Island. 'The island is about 2 kilometres in length by 1 kilometre in width, with an area of 1.33 square kilometres, comprising a plateau, varying in height from 32-46 metres asl, surrounded by cliffs, rock platforms and reefs. It contains an important seal breeding colony. It has a long history of human exploitation, which has drastically affected its vegetation communities, though it is now protected as a State Faunal Reserve. It is listed on Australia's Register of the National Estate. It is best viewed from The Crags or Yambuk Lake.' [Wikipedia] (Image#2620)

THE MOCK BATTLE
Queenstown, Tasmania, Australia

The late 1800s and early 1900s were a time of intense national (or imperial) pride, when men would “dress up in uniforms and go marching in the streets with the least provocation.” The Spion Kop canon is one of two cast in 1898 at the Queenstown smelters. A group of about 36 bagpipers calling themselves the ‘Gay Gordons’ challenged the local militia to a mock battle where they would defend Spion Kopf as a joke. Under the cover of darkness, they managed to acquire the cannon and hauled it to the top of Spion Kopf. Next day, as the militia advanced up the ‘Kopf’ a melee ensued. The cannon was fired in the general direction of the approaching enemy and in the confusion one of the advance party had his face ‘powder burnt’. [Inscription on plaque] (Image#2619)

EVERYDAY
Maits Rest, Victoria, Australia

A pleasant walk through an amazing ancient rainforest. This is what I experienced on a recent visit to Maits Rest, in Victoria's Otway Ranges. The beautiful tree ferns and huge trees that adjoin the walk refresh one's soul with every step. If I lived closer, I think I would take a walk here every day! (Image#2618)
