The food is very tasty because they use the freshest ingredients and cook with care. My kale salad was dressed perfectly. The flavors from the cheese and the nuts and the cranberries blended perfectly. They cut/shredded the kale just so, to give the right textures to the salad. Leaves that are too large and rough is a common downfall for a kale salad. Won't happen at Calafia. Their mushroom garlic noodles is for garlic lovers. No, its for the garlic gourmand. Mushrooms cooked exactly to the right consistency. And every bite finishes with that slight wonderful garlic burn on the tongue. Ethereal!

It is a little bit pricey, but the food is high quality and very good. I guess the genre would be called California cuisine - fresh ingredients prepared in creative ways. There is a fair variety in the menu that should accommodate people with dietary requirements without restricting the choices of other people in the party. The kitchen is open, which is fun to look in and see what is going on, but that probably contributes to making the restaurant a little noisy. There is also an attached deli/store where you can get salads or sandwiches to go.

Amazing menu with many unique treats. Half the menu for Meat Eaters and half for Plant Eaters. Lots of very healthy choices, Don't miss the Red-in-the middle Veggie Burger... or the Dinosaur Kale salad... Chef used to serve the Grateful Dead and was the first chef at Google.

Had the scallops and steak--awesome combo! Server took forever to attend to us though. So old fashioned, more places should have pagers and a way to order and pay digitally.

A bit noisy, but delicious food. Loved the fried chicken wraps and the sole special. Great wine selection and 50% off bottles on Wednesday. Would have been even better sitting outside.

Appetizers (shrimp - avocado mini tacos) and the seafood entrees were good.... but the menu had a section with entrees that implied 'large portions' ("not so small plates")....instead my 'seabass with clams' was a thin and small piece of filet with four clams. My friend's 'scallops with pork belly' were large indeed, but ...three of them, and the belly seemed coming from a sparrow :-O. With the average 'not small' entree priced at 30, the red wine list starting at about 45$. No bread, nice ambiance but very very loud. I advise it to tea-totterers on a diet who don't much care for value or conversation.

Took about 20 minutes for my order to be taken and the waiter checked on me once during the meal after that. Though the lamb burger itself was excellent, they smothered it in way too much goat cheese. All in all disappointing for such a nice place and enticing menu. Best part was one of the cooks saying he liked my beetle juice shirt

I've been here a bunch of times for dinner when I have evening classes at Stanford. The food is always really great, inspired and delicious, and the service is exceptional. I love to get yummy cookies from the bakery to go as well.
