Clouds rolled in overhead just as the sun was rising, but you gotta love the fall colors on the summit of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park.

Thanks +Dave Cleaveland  I wanted to get to Katahdin this fall but didn't quite make it. Had to "settle" for Acadia instead :)

Was in the area for a work-related event, so decided to stay around afterwards for sunset. This is the famous Marshall Point Lighthouse near Port Clyde... the one Forrest Gump ran to and ran to in the movie:)

love all of the lighthouse pictures.  This one in Port Clyde (Marshall Point) is one of my favorites.

One of my favorite spots in Acadia, "Raven's Nest" is almost secretly tucked away in the much less crowded but ever so beautiful Schoodic portion of the park. I saw a grand total of one car in Schoodic tonight, and for those of you who have frequented the more popular Mount Desert Island part of Acadia in August, that might be hard to believe! Despite a large cloud bank near the western horizon, some high wispy clouds did their best to make me smile. Me and my fine deli sandwich were perched on a pretty small ledge about 60 feet up for about an hour as the light slowly faded, and although the surf tonight was rather benign, I can't think of a better way to spend some quality time in my favorite national park.

Even though Sandy came ashore 600 miles plus south of us, we still got some big surf along the coast in Acadia National Park. See more at: http://storiesfromhome.wordpress.com

So, I had a chance to meet up with +Moe Chen in Acadia last night. I've never done any kind of night photography, so to say that I was out of my element would be a huge understatement. Not to worry though, Moe was very generous in his advice, and I had a great time wandering around Acadia in search of the Milky Way. There is SO much to learn about this type of photography, but I am totally hooked. All sorts of rookie mistakes made by me, and although I didn't get anything that would stand up to printing, I really enjoyed the company and the experience.

Yes, there's really not much to fear around here in that respect. In the desert, night is when the snakes can be the most active. Luckily it was in March and they are still pretty dormant at night, but becoming more active. Also, the skies around JTree aren't really all that dark given that the 29 Palms Marine base lights it up from the north and Palm Springs area to the south. I'd love to tag along sometime when you guys do that again
