I was noticing a large footing being installed in the median at Quebec St. and Milross Ave. over the past few days. I guess this might be what it's for.

In high school I participated in Centennial's salmon club with the two founders mentioned in this article, Ruth Foster and Rod MacVicar, where we'd volunteer at Mossom Creek hatchery in Port Moody.

After it burned down in 2013, community contributions raised enough to rebuild the hatchery and it's almost finished, complete with a green roof. They've used a mix of native plants including moss, ferns, and wild strawberry, that could be found on the forest floor.
Donations still needed but the rebuilding work is nearly done and the fish are on their way

I'm planning to take the day off on 21 August, 2017 to witness the total solar eclipse. The previous one to pass over the continental US was back in 1979.

A growing collection of the unique, odd and wonderous places that exist all over our tiny blue dot, "Atlas Obscura is the definitive guide to the world's wondrous and curious places."

The founders of Atlas Obscura believe:
1. There is something new under the sun, every day, all over the world.
2. Around the corner is something that will surprise the hell out of you.
3. Atlas Obscura is for people who still believe in discovery.

"In an age where everything seems to have been explored and there is nothing new to be found, we celebrate a different way of looking at the world.

Atlas Obscura is a collaborative project. We depend on our far-flung community of explorers (like you!) to help us discover amazing, hidden spots, and share them with the world. If you know of a curious place that's not already in the Atlas, let us know.

There is plenty out there to discover, so let's start looking!"
Definitive guidebook and friendly tour-guide to the world's most wondrous places. Travel tips, articles, strange facts and unique events.

Some more details about the green roof at Mossom Creek Hatchery.
Question: How do you make a 25 foot long, flat, green salmon? Answer: Get a big, sloped, solid roof. Add 24 tons of growth medium of lava, pumice and other good stuff. Bring in a half dozen experts to plant the perfect plants, with an emphasis on the fish shape. Wait for summer. The Hatchery’s roof has [&hellip

I enjoy the way these murals add depth, colour and whimsy to blank walls.

The guy on the left is the coach of the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team, Pat Brown. He was our pilot as we raced up to 126.5 km/h.
