This week on Vocal Point with Jerry Newcombe, (April 6 – April 12). LISTEN at 11:00 AM, 5:00 PM, 11:00 PM, 5:00 AM (Eastern) on GraceNetRadio.com.

❖ What happens when a young person is reared in the faith but turns away for fame and fortune? Such is the case for pop singer, Katy Perry. Alex McFarland notes: “Katy Perry was raised in a Christian home, but has made references about turning away from the faith, especially as she rose to fame and has been in the spotlight more.” Alex McFarland is a Christian apologist and author of 18 books, including his new book “Abandoned Faith: Why Millennials are Walking Away and How You Can Lead Them Home” (co-written by Jason Jimenez). Alex McFarland joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss lessons for parents in the Katy Perry type story.

❖ The church is not all called to serve as Good Samaritans, helping those in need, but also to be Watchmen on the wall (Ezekiel 33). So notes author and book editor, Charlie Rodriguez, who has produced several books, including a 2-part series (so far) on the threat of an ever-expanding government at the expense of religious and civil liberties---STATISM I and STATISM II. Charlie Rodriguez joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss, “Speaking Truth To Church, State, & Culture.” www.tanglewoodpublishing.org

❖ Lee Strobel was an atheist who worked as a journalist at the Chicago Tribune. When his wife started going to church, he wanted to win her back to their blissful state of unbelief. So he set out to use his journalistic and legal skills (he graduated from Yale Law School) to debunk Christianity. After studying for 2 years, he ended up getting saved (on November 8, 1981, 2 PM Central time). He wrote about his spiritual quest in the mega-bestselling book, “The Case for Christ,” and now his story is going to be a major motion picture---opening April 7, 2017. Brian Bird is the scriptwriter and co-producer of the new movie. Brian Bird has written the scripts for about 20 produced movies and many television episodes, including for “Touched by an Angel.” Brian Bird joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the new movie, “The Case for Christ.” www.thecaseforchristmovie.com

❖ David Daleiden is in trouble again. This is the young man who founded the Center for Medical Progress, which produced a series of shocking videos that document that Planned Parenthood has apparently been trafficking in baby body parts---which they have sold for profit for research. But if you don’t like the message, shoot the messenger. David and an assistant are in legal trouble again. The state of California is coming after them with 15 felony charges. If convicted, they could to prison. The Thomas More Society is a Christian legal group helping David in this and other cases. Matt Heffron, an attorney with the Thomas More Society, joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss this case and what’s at stake. www.thomasmoresociety.com

This week on Vocal Point with Jerry Newcombe, (Jan 26 – Feb 1). LISTEN at 11:00 AM, 5:00 PM, 11:00 PM, 5:00 AM (Eastern) on www.GraceNetRadio.com.

► How did extreme environmentalism fare in the recent elections? Stephen Moore, FreedomWorks Senior Economic Contributor, comments: "The biggest loser on election night was the Big Green movement in America dedicated to the anti-prosperity proposition that to save the planet from extinction we have to deindustrialize the U.S. and throw millions and millions of our fellow citizens out of their jobs." Steve Moore, author (along with Kathleen Hartnett White) of the book, Fueling Freedom, joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss energy and environmentalism and the new administration. www.freedomworks.org

► A consortium of “evangelical and mainline Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish scientists, economists, legal scholars, policy experts, and religious leaders” have written an open letter supporting Donald J. Trump’s nominee for EPA Administrator. Dr. Cal Beisner of the Cornwall Alliance helped put this group together. Dr. Beisner joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss this important issue. www.cornwallalliance.org

► Dr. Michael Brown is a Christian author, educator, and talk show host. He discusses with Jerry Newcombe the idea promoted by some liberal evangelicals, including Tony Compolo, of “Red Letter Christianity.” The idea there is that only what Jesus said---as found in some Bibles in red letters---is what really counts as the Word of God. Dr. Brown refutes this false either/or. www.askdrbrown.org

► The real Obama Legacy is the topic of discussion with Jerry Newcombe and Genevieve Wood, Senior Fellow in Communications and Senior Contributor for The Daily Signal, Heritage Foundation. Genevieve produced hosted some powerful (and critical) videos on Obama’s real legacy domestically and in foreign affairs. www.heritage.org

"The opposition [to Trump] clearly has its own extremism problem."

In addition to her being a speaker/co-chair at yesterday's DC march and the Communist Party's 1980/1984 candidate for the US Vice Presidency, Angela Davis flew to Moscow in 1979 to accept the "Lenin Peace Prize."

1979 was after the Soviets had, before a watching world, brutally suppressed Hungary and Czechoslovakia's attempts at independence, and it was a mere six years after Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn had risked his life to publish a multi-novel series painstakingly documenting the mass atrocities of the Soviet secret police and prisons.

The women political prisoners in communist labor camps underwent horrific interrogations involving sexual harassment, sexual assault, and other tortures. They were also subjected to a combination of malnourishment and over-exertion that sometimes resulted in vaginal prolapse. (From WebMD, so you won't have to google that term: goo.gl/CWssLw)

These horrors were well documented and widely known before Angela Davis accepted a "peace" prize named after an evil (and actual) dictator who laid the groundwork for these jails and camps. It was inexcusable for her to accept such an award, and it is inexcusable for her to continually be given a platform to lecture us on human rights and women's rights. h/t: Richard Ramsey

This week on Vocal Point with Jerry Newcombe, (Jan 19 – Jan 25). LISTEN at 11:00 AM, 5:00 PM, 11:00 PM, 5:00 AM (Eastern) on www.GraceNetRadio.com.

► Can abortion cause psychological problems for the woman who chooses it? Headlines about a recent article in the JAMA Psychiatry seemed to indicate the answer is no. As Michael J. New, a writer for National Review and a visiting professor at Ave Maria University, put it: “The media spin is that abortion does not significantly increase the risk of adverse psychological outcomes.” But Dr. New disagrees and takes exception with the reporting of the study on which this media spin was based and explains why to Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point. www.nationalreview.com

► A significant new book has come out by a leading scholar on issues related to Hitler and the Nazis. Dr. Richard Weikart is a professor of history at the Stanislaw chapter of California State University. Perhaps most famous for his landmark book, From Darwin to Hitler, now Professor Weikart has written the book Hitler’s Religion. Richard Weikart joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss the religious milieu in pre-Nazi Germany and how theological liberalism which undercut true faith in Christianity helped indirectly pave the way for Nazi Germany. www.darwintohitler.com

► Public relations expert Tom Ciesielka explains six simple ways that we can share the pro-life message and potentially save babies. Tom Ciesielka joins Jerry Newcombe to explain these and how one person can make a difference for good. www.tcpr.net

► The pro-abortion rights advocates likes to claim that they want abortions to be “safe, legal, and rare.” I would note the last one is a disingenuous goal on the face of it because of the financial gains. But how safe is abortion? Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue recently wrote an article about one facility in St. Louis, entitled “You’ll be Shocked by How Many Violations Inspectors Found at a Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic.” Cheryl Sullenger joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to explain her disturbing findings. www.operationrescue.org

► Why can’t the West come to grips with radical Islam? How many Jihadist attacks must occur before they wake up? Robert Spencer, director of jihadwatch.com, joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss the recent attack in Berlin and this common phenomenon. Why won’t our leaders connect the dots between Islamic teaching (at least some interpretations thereof) and these ongoing attacks? www.jihadwatch.com

► History professor Richard Weikart of the California State University, Stanislaus, is the author of the classic book, From Darwin to Hitler. Now Dr. Weikart has written Hitler’s Religion Richard Weikart joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss this subject. On rare occasion some on the left will claim that Hitler was a Christian. But that canard shows how uninformed they are. www.darwintohitler.com

► Historian and author Rod Gragg is a journalist. His latest book is on those brave men and women who hid Jews from the Nazis and in other ways helped victims of Hitler’s henchmen. The book is called My Brother’s Keeper: Christians Who Risked All to Protect Jewish Targets of the Nazi Holocaust. Rod Gragg joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss these often-unsung heroes of World War II (and earlier). www.rodgragg.com

► Mark Beliles is an author and pastor ministering in Charlottesville, Virginia. For years he has been studying the religion of Thomas Jefferson (and James Madison). Dr. Beliles and Jerry Newcombe co-wrote a book on our third president’s faith (or lack thereof, at least in later years), entitled : The Religious Life and Legacy of Thomas Jefferson. Mark Beliles joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss the common myths that Jefferson was a lifelong skeptic and that he wanted all religious expression banned from the public arena. www.doubtingthomasbook.com
