So, interesting listing on Google search. Was looking up information on 'nitric oxide' and saw a listing from www.abrahamroofing.com because apparently pharmaceuticals are a part of the roofing industry. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the ad and was redirected to a Canadian pharmacy site. Not that unusual. But then on subsequent clicks I get redirected to 2 other Canadian pharmacy sites.

Here is the link, if you want to try it yourselves:

Wil Wheaton rants about Google+ & YouTube.

Is anyone else noticing this change on YouTube? I just checked and it's the same old YouTube for me.

Adwords Desktop Editor Performance: Hardware Makes It Better

I love the Editor! It is a great tool that allows large accounts to be updated with great ease. But I deal with very large accounts. Very large (1000's of adgroups with keywords well into 6 figures for one account, large). It has become very frustrating downloading/uploading updates to the campaign and building out additions especially when it takes time for the transfer of data.

Recently, a colleague got a new MacBook and I was surprised at how fast these processes were happening on his device. We worked on the same accounts and shared the same network but despite the fact that he was working wirelessly and I was working with a hardline connection, he was getting things done faster.

My initial thought was that the SSD in the MacBook was making a significant difference in the performance. Based on the knowledge that Editor creates an SQL database of the account, I figured that large accounts would get bogged down with data being scattered all over the hard drive and the "physical" process of connecting the data together would be very taxing on a physical hard drive. Of course, my IT guys wanted to test things before they spent any money on upgrading my system. My PC was already running on 3.4 GHz (8 core) CPU and 16 GB of RAM.

During the course of several weeks, while waiting for our IT guys to test my system, I noticed that data transfers seems to be a bit faster on days following and overnight defrag. This furthered my suspicions that an SSD would help my cause.

The system test showed that there were no significant spikes or strains to the RAM or CPU when uploading or downloading changes and data. So we went ahead with the upgrade.

We installed a Samsung 840 Pro Series 256 GB SATA SSD, MZ-7PD256BW and a SATA 3 PCI card. I chose this SSD based on read/write speed performance and cost. The difference was astounding! Making changes to large quantities of keywords and data transfers take about half the time to process.

If you are experiencing long waits using editor, I recommend you test your system to find if you need to upgrade. RAM is the obvious first step, if needed, processor and getting an SSD are more drastic upgrades but should be seriously considered if you want to increase performance time while using editor.

Does anyone else out there have any similar experiences with hardware updates to improved the Adwords Desktop Editor speed?

Dear Google Adwords Team,

You keep pushing the Mobile advertising platform and mentioning how its usage is continuing to increase, but you are failing in providing a tool for the advertisers on the go, a mobile Adwords App.

Although a fully functioning Adwords app would be the best gift (or product, 'cause I'd be willing to pay for one) you could provide for the Adwords advertiser, I would settle for one that simply reports on spend and allows you to quickly and easily pause/activate accounts/campaigns/adgroups/keywords.

I have this awesome Android phone running with Ice Cream Sandwich on a 4G network, yet it is painful to make these changes on my phone.

What do you think? Is this such an impossible or unreasonable request?

Please make an official Google #MobileAdwordsApp for us!

Google Adwords encourages good practices with ad testing in their New Changes to Ad Rotation.

http://adwords.blogspot.com/2012/04/new-changes-to-ad-rotation.html

Initially I thought that this would be a bad change for those that test ads. Putting a 30 day cap on ads then automatically moving them to optimize for clicks is just a way to put more money in Google's pockets. But the encouraging news is that if a new "creative is enabled or edited, the ads in that ad group will rotate more evenly for a new period of 30 days." This allows testers to always have ad rotation available.

If a non-tester wants to save click funds, they would be encouraged to follow the practice of testing out a new creative. Well played Google Adwords Team!

More cloud space! Seems like an expansion of Google Docs.

I agree. I just got access to the Google Drive today and it already had all my documents from Google Docs included. The "folders" format needs some work.
