BackPain Myths

Do we need to add to the myths surrounding healthcare? A nice debunking of the Skinny Jeans cause back pain myth.
More #Backpain myths.

Here's a really good dismissal of the #skinnyJeans cause back pain myth.

As therapist should we have to spend time countering the the nonsense that some therapists dream up to drive patients into their clinic. Or are we better taking the time to help each patients to manage their own backs with correct treatment, advise and exercise when appropriate.

We should be there to treat, guide and educate our patients. Not to scare them. What do you thing?

My Challenge to race Mo Farah and Usain Bolt at Glasgow 2014

Today #mofarah     announced that he would be competing at #glasgow2014     . The first thing I did when I heard this was tweet a challenge to race him (I also asked for a 15 minute head start).  I must be mad

I then tweeted that if he blanked me I'd race #usainbolt   . Taking this madness further still I challenged them both to a 3K. You've got to make it fair for both of them!

The thing is I'm not mad. There are reasons behind this challenge. Scotland and particularly Glasgow have some terrible health and life expectancy statistics. Glasgow is often given the title "The Sick Man Of Europe", but is doesn't have to be that way and in some ways it isn't

In Glasgow we have some new and refurbished facilities, but we don't need them. Every time I look out my front window I see someone running past. When I go down to the park there's runners about. On Saturday there's a number of 5K #Parkruns     in Glasgow and other Scottish cities. We have #JogScotland     and running clubs facilitating people to start running. When you look at it there's runners everywhere, running every distance, but not enough people are active. This is repeated around the world

The point I'm trying to make is that these groups are for people that have already made the decision to run or exercise. When they view you on TV, or live on the track, it encourages them to run more and maybe faster. What I want to do is encourage those that don't run to get up and maybe start.

So here I am 46 year old who recently started running. My time for a 5K is over 30mins. I've got no chance of beating you. I also have no chance of even giving you a race. Even with the head start I'm going to look stupid. Without it I'm going to finish at a minimum of 15 minutes behind you. This is the important bit, I know that the that time doesn't matter because whatever I achieve it will be faster than the person sitting on the sofa.

So I'm prepared to look stupid in front of a stadium full of people with live TV going around the world if it gets one person of their bum and start doing something, because whatever they do, it can't be as embarrassing as what I did. So get your people to talk to my people (me) and we'll try and sort something out.

Is that thing you go to bed with old and saggy? Do you wake up stiff in the morning. It could be that your mattress is to blame. The first step to getting a mattress that's right for you could be seeing an osteopath for all the advice you need.
