I was skeptical when I talked to these guys a year ago. Pretty cool that they succeeded -- by collecting data about employee Fitbit use, this company saved $300,000 on its insurance bill.

One thing that got cut out of this story is that these guys are working on using the Kinect, from Microsoft, to automatically identify the food people toss into this machine. Kinda cool. http://www.economist.com/blogs/babbage/2014/06/food-waste
AMERICANS chuck out an enormous amount of food. In 2012, more than 36m tonnes went into the rubbish bin, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The...

Good read by +Ryan Faas about the implications -- good and bad -- of shadow IT in healthcare

this was a super fun story to work on. These guys collect data from 250 sensors on the cars, wirelessly in real time, to help with car design and strategy during the race. Very cool.

Even though Netflix has no project managers, a couple hundred people at the company use Smartsheet, a project management service.

+Nancy Gohring uncovers an interesting paradox: In Netflix, a company with no official project managers, a tool for project management has become incredibly popular.
Netflix has a unique corporate culture and doesn't have project managers. Yet, workers have begun using Smartsheet to help manage projects.

This back and forth between Amazon Web Services and VMware points out the crappy choice that many IT departments have to make. Either spend a lot to support multiple cloud technologies or choose a sub-par cloud service. http://thenewstack.io/in-aws-tussle-vmware-presents-a-devils-bargain/
