Joyent is creating a Node.js advisory board, a move that may satisfy calls for an open governance model for Node.

http://thenewstack.io/joyent-tries-to-divert-node-js-crisis-with-new-advisory-board/
Joyent is taking baby steps toward implementing a more open governance model for Node.js, a move that is surely aimed at stemming strife that has slowed progress in the popular developer community. Joyent plans to announce tomorrow a proposal for creating a Node.js advisory board which it said ...

A curious situation. Volunteers behind the Archive Team say TwitPic's founder is blocking them from saving photos before TwitPic shuts down.

ICYMI: I talked to Marten Mickos about his plans for Eucalyptus now that it's part of HP. Hint: He's hoping to bring AWS compatibility to HP Helion.

http://thenewstack.io/mickos-the-ambition-is-to-bring-aws-compatibility-to-hps-helion/
While HP didn't make any mention of the future of Eucalyptus' technology in its press release about acquiring the company, Marten Mickos, CEO of Eucalyptus, sounds like he has hope for integrating Eucalyptus into HP's Helion offering. “The ambition is to figure out a way of getting the ...

The Seattle Sounders have cut in half the number of days players have to sit on the sidelines by analyzing data from wearables.

http://www.citeworld.com/article/2607020/internet-of-things/how-wearables-helped-dramatically-reduce-injuries-for-seattle-sounders.html
The Seattle Sounders soccer team has been using wearables during practice for the past few years and doing so has allowed the players to reduce the number of days they have to sit out due to muscle injuries by more than half.

This was a fun one to write: a behind the scenes look at the technology in the brand new Levi's Stadium (where the 49ers play). The data center is comparable to Facebook's back in 2007, the Wi-Fi has already supported 20,000 concurrent users, anyone can order food from their seats via their phones, and the IT team monitors Twitter and will send someone to your seat if you complain about a technology problem.

The IT team for the 49ers is using the preseason to work out the kinks of the technology behind its new stadium.

There are lots of naysayers about the rumored Verizon-led app store project. I agree, it's a stretch. But we should all hope that the project happens and has some success. It's a good way to encourage Google and Apple to improve their stores.

http://www.citeworld.com/article/2474681/mobile-byod/all-verizons-app-store-has-to-do-is-suck-a-bit-less-than-googles.html
Verizon is reportedly spearheading an effort to build a new kind of app store for Android phones. Despite the skeptics, we should all hope Verizon has some success.

Google didn't actually apply to test Internet access from these drones...

+Nancy Gohring on why Google's application to test drones in New Mexico is more mysterious than it seemed at first.
Google is working on getting permission from both the FCC and the FAA to conduct tests of its Titan drones in New Mexico. While the assumption is Google will use the drones to provide Internet access, the filings raise questions about its intent.
