The producers of the CMT Network's hit TV show "Nashville" purchased two original pages from a First Edition 1611 King James Pulpit Bible from us, and placed them in a large open book to make that book look like a complete original 1611 Bible, as a "prop" for an episode of "Nashville". Attached below is an 18-second video clip of the scene in which our Bible pages were used in this TV show, which aired a few months ago. The pages are shown on our website, here:…/king-james-1611-leaf.html

G.Q. Magazine ("Gentleman's Quarterly") says the Bible is not worth reading! Perhaps this magazine that promotes sexual promiscuity, a liberal lifestyle, and men's clothing fashion design, as being the primary focus of life, is actually what is not worth reading. -

A few days ago, Dr. R.C. Sproul died. He was considered by thousands of Christians to be the greatest and most influential theologian and Christian author and teacher of the past century. In addition to being my pastor for a decade, Dr. Sproul was also a friend with whom I had the privilege of visiting in his home, and hosting in my home.

I began reading Dr. Sproul's books 35 years ago, when I was 13, and my favorite of his books was Chosen By God, part of the series anchored by his best-seller The Holiness of God. All of Dr. Sproul's books, videos, and teaching materials, including his Reformation Study Bible, are available at his ministry's website:

Dr. Sproul was unrelenting in his preaching and teaching of salvation through Christ alone, by faith alone, supported by scripture alone. He was the author of well over 100 books. His radio program, Renewing Your Mind, reached a daily listening audience measured in the millions of people.

My friend Patrick Martin now lives in California and attends Dr. John MacArthur’s Church, but several years ago he lived here in Orlando near me and we both attended Dr. R.C. Sproul’s church, where my friend Toby DuBose was the Associate Pastor for a few years. Toby DuBose also led the church’s Young Adults Bible Study which I hosted in my home every Sunday evening. Patrick has in recent years been nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on history channel television documentaries.

Patrick sent out an Email Newsletter to many of his friends today, in which he relayed several personal stories about his experiences with Dr. R.C. Sproul. This story which Patrick wrote, and which occurred in my home about 15 years ago, is one that I thought you would enjoy:
The 1529 Luther New Testament
One year the Saint Andrew’s young adult’s group had a Christmas party at the lovely home of a good friend named Lawton Jeffcoat, who runs the amazing website - - and is the largest dealer of rare and antique Bibles in the world. The Sproul’s had been invited, along
with the other elders, to join us. Happily, R.C. and Vesta were able to attend that year. R.C. came in that evening and planted himself in a comfy couch-alcove that afforded him a bit of privacy and allowed people to come and talk to him without his having to mingle too much.

Lawton had at that time an impressive selection of Bible material in his home for showcasing to clients. I saw R.C. sitting there alone at one point and a light bulb came to my mind. Martin Luther first printed his German New Testament in 1522, however, there had been rumors of a little-known small second printing run in 1529; one incomplete copy has been found, in the early 1980’s, and it just happened to be in Lawton’s study at that moment!

I went to Lawton and said “Lawton, let’s get the 1529 and show it to R.C.” and off he went to retrieve it. As I stood alone before a sitting R.C. and explained to him what I held, with two hands, in front of him, his squinty eyes got larger as he gingerly reached out for this rarity from his hero. He opened it, and as easy as one might read a modern-day comic book, began to read out loud the old German language. It quickly became apparent to me that he wanted to be alone with this book, so I eased away as he sat there alone for nearly 30 minutes looking over it’s pages, in deeply contented bliss. I was happy for him.
- Patrick Martin

The picture here explains concisely this unfortunate eternal truth regarding fallen human nature, echoing Biblical teaching as well. Those who do not understand (or even know) history are doomed to repeat it, and our culture knows almost nothing of history or its lessons. A more detailed analysis of this cycle was offered 200 years ago by Alexis de Tocqueville (author of the 1835 classic "Democracy in America"), who said:
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."

I have just discovered this amazing letter written 201 years ago, by the second President of the United States, John Adams, addressed to the man who was his Vice President, and subsequently became the third President of The United States, Thomas Jefferson. It was written on February 2, 1816, during the term of the fourth President of the United States, James Madison. The full letter can be read here:
Consider these fascinating observations that are as timely and relevant today as they were over two centuries ago:
Dear Sir
I know not what to say of your Letter of the 11th of Jan. but that it is one of the most consolatory, I ever received.
To trace the commencement of the Reformation I suspect We must go farther back than ...Huss or Wickliff, and I want the Acta Sanctorum to assist me in this Research. That Stupendous Monument of human Hypocricy and Fanaticism the Church of St. Peter at Rome, which was a Century and an Half in Building; excited the Ambition of Leo the tenth, who believed no more of the Christian Religion than Diderot, to finish it: And finding St. Peters Pence insufficient, he deluged all Europe with Indulgences for sale, and excited Luther to contravert his Authority to grant them. Luther and his Associates and Followers, went less than half way in detecting the Corruptions of Christianity; but they acquired Reverence and Authority among their Followers almost as absolute as that of the Popes had been, To enter into details would be endless.
The Morality of Tacitus, is the Morality of Patriotism, and Britain & France have adopted his Creed; i.e. that all things were made for Rome. "Laws were not made for me...The Universe was made for me", says Man. Jesus despized and condemned this Patriotism: But what Nation or What Christian has adopted his System? He was, as you Say “the most benevolent Being, that ever appeard on Earth.” France and England, Bourbons and Bonaparte, and all the Sovereigns at Vienna, have acted on the same Principle “All things were made for my Use.” When it is to combat Evil, ’tis lawful to employ the Devil”. The old Deceivers have tryumphed over the New. Truth, must be more respected than it ever has been, before any great Improvement can be expected in the Condition of Mankind.
We must come to the Principles of Jesus. But, when will all Men and all Nations do as they would be done by? Forgive all Injuries and love their Enemies as themselves? I leave those profound Phylosophers whose Sagacity perceives the Perfectibility of Humane Nature, and those illuminated Theologians who expect the Apocalyptic Reign, to enjoy their transporting hopes...
You ask, how it has happened that all Europe, has acted on the Principle “that Power was Right”. I know not what Answer to give you, but this, that Power always sincerely, conscientiously, believes itself Right. Power always thinks it has a great Soul, and vast Views, beyond the Comprehension of the Weak; and thait it is doing God Service, when it is violating all his Laws. Our Passions, Ambition, Avarice, Love, Resentment etc possess so much metaphysical Subtilty and so much overpowering Eloquence, that they insinuate themselves into the Understanding and the Conscience and Convert both to their Party. And I may be deceived as much as any of them, when I say, that Power must never be trusted Without a Check.
John Adams
Does this letter not resonate as profoundly true and applicable today as it was 201 years ago?
None of the Presidents our nation has endured for the past century have possessed the knowledge or the discernment of Pres. Adams, and certainly not his eloquent ability to express their observations. Presidents today do not even write anything of their own creation, (Trump's infamous 140-character Tweets notwithstanding), and all their hired speechwriters don’t hold a candle to Pres. Adams.
Of course, all they ever write today is carefully crafted and dumbed-down speeches that trend well with focus groups, offend as few as possible, are very easily understood by the least educated, and amount to little more than vague political platitudes and posturing.
President Adams describes here how history is repeating itself because the nature of Man does not change. Indeed, Power always believes itself right, believes it knows better than the governed masses, and believes itself to be doing what is for the best, even if its actions violate all God’s laws.
Both Pres. John Adams and Pres. Thomas Jefferson died on exactly the same day: JULY 4, 1826, exactly 50 years to-the-day after the signing of the Declaration of Independence on JULY 4, 1776.

American Voters have spoken loud and clear: most voters DO NOT want candidates that have strong religious convictions. American Voters DO NOT want candidates with a strong Christian viewpoint or a Biblical world-and-life-view. Thus... we have the two most popular candidates from which we may choose. This is the nature of "Democracy" in a predominantly ungodly nation. Our candidates reflect our voters. We should not be surprised by our options, as they reflect our society accurately.
