What Is a Callus?

A callus is a patch of tough, thick skin that forms due to pressure, friction, or irritation from rubbing against your shoes or socks. Although similar to corns, calluses are typically bigger and wider. They don't necessarily have defined edges and more commonly arise near bony areas of the foot like the toes and joints.

Did you know requesting an appointment in the morning is the best way to make sure you're not sitting in a waiting room waiting to be seen? If you're an urgent patient, it is less likely that you will be waiting on a doctor who is running behind schedule. (http://ow.ly/i7Pj30nciLw)

Insert and orthotic are often used interchangeably, but they're two different things. Inserts can be purchased at the store and are typically made of rubber or plastic. Ultimately, its goal is to relieve foot pain. Custom orthotics, on the other hand, are prescription medical devices used to correct biomechanical issues of the foot.

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP, is a type of regenerative medicine used to address joint pain and promote healing. During a PRP appointment, a sample of your blood is drawn and placed in a machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge spends around, separating your platelets or natural growth factors, from your blood. Once the platelets have been extracted, they are injected into a problem area. For example, if you're suffering from knee pain, the platelets could be injected into your knee. There, they would go to work encouraging the growth of new, healthy tissue while relieving swelling and general discomfort.

Since the first surgery performed, which was a human heart transplant in 1967, many other advanced and quite odd procedures had come to exist. Here are just a few:
1) Rotationplasty: Turning an ankle into a knee
2) Osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis: Restoring sight with a tooth
3) Hemispherectomy: Removing half of the brain to treat seizures
4) Heterotopic heart transplant: Two hearts may be better than one
5) Head transplant: A possible cure for paralysis

What Is a Corn?

Corn is a small, circular lesion that develops on the outer edge of your feet or toes, usually as the result of repetitive pressure caused by a sock or shoe. Corns received their name because they look similar to a kernel of corn; unlike callouses, corns have a center composed of hardened material.
