Fallen

The fallen rocks in the foreground reminded me of a duck lying on its back.  I do tend to lend organic life to inanimate objects, just like a kid who sees animal shapes in the clouds.  So, maybe the duck got tired of sitting high on the cliff and opted for a different view.  Or it's just some rocks before a wall of weathered sandstone.  I actually think the latter is just as interesting.

Thanks for looking!

One Fine Day

We'd had rain the previous day, so as the rising sun warmed up the valley floor it created this lovely low fog.  An absolutely still morning made the perfect mirror for reflections in the Merced River.

Thanks for stopping by for a look!

A Calm Beneath the Storm

From our Aperture Academy Eastern Sierra workshop in July.  Our students were very fortunate to get some great monsoon weather for our sunset here at North Lake.  It was probably the first time I had ever seen the lake so calm and clear.  Then suddenly the winds picked up sending ripples across the water.  You should have heard the despair from our students along the shoreline.  It was laughed off, though as everyone still came away with some great shots.

Thanks so much for stopping by for a look!

Geometric Afterglow

My last shot on this evening as it was nearly dark, but the risidual glow of sunset came through in a longer exposure.  I love the magic of photography.  Think I'll do more of it.

Thanks for looking!

Muffin Top

With all the colors and crazy formations I see in the Southwest, I am often reminded of some food item.  So if I say dessert instead of desert, you'll understand.  :)

Day's End

Sunset on Thanksgiving was definitely something to be thankful for at this popular spot in Death Valley.

This is my last post for 2013, though I still have a ton of images to go through from the past year.  Some I think are quite good, many others will find their way to the trash bin and rightly so.  I find each year is a period for growth in many areas of my life and that is also true with my photography.  I continue to read, study, practice, and experiment all that time will allow and can only hope the quality of my work reflects that growth.  Getting everything to stay organized with the ability to pull something out of this mush of a brain at the right place and time is always a challenge as I slide further down the backside of the hill…buuuuut still not anywhere near a stopping point in this adventure I call life!  That hill will be clawed and gouged before I'm through!

My sincerest thanks to all the great friends I've made along the way and all those who continue to support me and my photography.  I've appreciated all the feedback whether positive or negative because it does get me to look a bit more critically at what I do and helps me to do better.  I'll keep getting out there to enjoy as many adventures as I can with my camera by my side and hope you do as well.  Smile, laugh, smell the roses, pay it forward, recognize all that is beautiful in this world.  The sun will rise and set each day without our influence and an opportunity to seek out the positive and nurture it because it will always be worth your time and effort.  And if the colors are off-the-hook amazing, it's a bonus to take your best shot!  :)

Happy New Year!
