awesome infographic outlining the relationship of sound and musical instruments

The Physics of Sound

Did you know that humans can hear sounds that range in frequency from 20 Hz on up to 20 000 Hz? And did you know that when we listen to music, we are listening to a collection of notes that differ from one another by their frequency? And did you know that various instruments have unique frequency ranges within which they can produce sounds? The following infographic by the Odd Quartet provides a wealth of amazing detail regarding the range of frequencies produced by various instruments, comparing them to the sounds played by notes within the various octaves of a piano keyboard. The infographic can be found on our Pinterest site at ...

Sikh Super Heros To Have!
Eileen Alden and Supreet Singh Manchanda did a little ground breaking in the comic world this week as the Oakland based comic book writers introduce the first "Sikh Super Hero" who loves Elvis and hates bad guys. http://www.supersikhcomics.com

Oh... and this guy is pretty cool too!

Uploaded a bunch of snapshots from the Mexican Riviera... where I visited a few #Mayan #ruins . This is one of my favorite #pyramids . Built almost a thousand years apart from its neighbor Nohuch Mul, it is the only pyramid I have seen to date with curved edges.

Worst description by scientists... ever "their spiny head appendages were believed to be the body of a shrimp, the toothed mouth was considered to represent a jellyfish, and their complete bodies were described as sea cucumbers!"
Arthropods first appear in the fossil record some 530 million years ago.

New Orbit Methodology Success for NASA as Dawn Drops into Orbit Around Ceres this Morning
Photographed by Dawn's camera Feb. 19, bright spots in a crater have experts buzzing. Speculations range from mineral deposits to a huge rager with a burning man.

The spots "are unique in the solar system," Carol Raymond, deputy principal investigator of the Dawn mission said at a NASA briefing Monday. "The mystery will be solved, but it's really got us at the edge of our seats."

NASA engineers said Friday they are "exhilarated" by the final maneuver in a 7 1/2 year "celestial dance" that put the spacecraft Dawn into orbit around the mini-planet Ceres 310 million miles from Earth.

been following this... kind of crazy funny. Curiosity begs me to ask have any of the people that think there is any black ever been accused of being color blind? kidding... pretty sure someone pulled a fast one on the interwebs.
There's a lot of debate on Tumblr about this right now, and we need to settle it. This is important because I think I'm going insane.

For my graphically savvy friends out there... it is not a gif. It is not an animation of any kind. It is not a script changing the image on Tumblr... this is a true phenomenon at work in each individual. The damn thing did the color change on me after i downloaded it and opened it in Photoshop. Cool stuff!

Monkey frog lickin, spirit healing, pre-columbian art making archers are not the enemy...

Clear cutting, rubber thieving, cocaine trafficking, gold diggers are... and by proxy that means you and me as we continue to support the likes of IKEA which is the largest consumer of wood in the world. Additionally, the US & China are the largest consumers of rubber and gold which largely goes into manufacturing computer hardware, technology products and tires. Cocaine arguably isn't a resource, unless you're making crack, but you get the idea. In case you're saying "ya but", here are some alternatives you may not be aware of... and might want to consider learning more about.

1. BioIsoprene - Genencor's synthetic rubber has been used by Goodyear since 2009 to produce tires that last longer than conventional tires which are made largely from oil. This soy based compound can be used in everything from diapers to feminine hygiene products. Where's it at?

2. HDPE Plastic Lumber - Made 100% from recycled plastic,10lbs of this stuff recycles 400+ milk jugs and it looks as good in year 10 as it did the day you bought it. So why do we continue to predominantly use trees for construction material?

3. Gold - According to a 1924 experiment by Professor Hantaro Nagaoka, we can manufacture the stuff through transmutation using nuclear energy to strike out a single proton. The hidden incentive behind 30 countries building over 400 nuclear reactors since the 50's?

So why do we still continue to destroy ancient cultures in the effort to consume these natural resources? 2 words... Ignorance & Greed.

Mark Plotkin talks a little more about the damage we are doing to the most precious of all resources... people! -> http://goo.gl/OXiCv9

"My folks have been settled in Western Appalachia since before America was called America. Over 10 generations flourished and chose to call the same 200 square miles of East Tennessee & Western Carolina home. I am a direct descendant of Zachariah Isbell, Darling Everett Jones, Capt. Jacob T. Hartsell & Andrew Job. All of which were great Americans whose contributions helped to shape the free nation we live in today... I am presently working on a book to share their stories and the forgotten moments of the periods in which they lived."

WTF - I AM PAYING FOR THIS?? Two weeks and counting... After 8 hours on the phone with 3 different supervisors who didn't know their rear from their ear, 4 pointless tech support calls, 2 account reps who claimed they could do nothing, 4 visits to my home from Technicians to diagnose the problem and hitchhiking to Truckee in the pouring rain to swap out my modem, Suddenlink still insists on charging me a $40 installation fee, a reconnection fee, and $70 a month for a 50 Mbps connection that even their installation tech's say they can't sustain and should not be selling. Although the individuals I have spoken with directly have been very nice, I seriously want to nominate this company for the "Worst Customer Service Ever" Title.

WARNING!!!! STACKWALL MANUFACTURING=DISHONEST OWNER & EMPLOYEES Roman and his daughter Nicole E Manko who own and operate Stackwall Manufacturing Inc. at 149 S. San Antonio Ave. in Pomona California are not to be trusted! They are dishonest, deceitful and just plain criminals. You might as well throw your money in the trash can as spend it with their company. I tried to rectify my issue with them for over a month and now they refuse to return my phone calls. I am currently pressing criminal charges for operating as an unlicensed dealer, selling under false pretense and suing them for expenses due to the fact that they failed to provide me with documentation that is required by the State of California.
