Monkey frog lickin, spirit healing, pre-columbian art making archers are not the enemy...
Clear cutting, rubber thieving, cocaine trafficking, gold diggers are... and by proxy that means you and me as we continue to support the likes of IKEA which is the largest consumer of wood in the world. Additionally, the US & China are the largest consumers of rubber and gold which largely goes into manufacturing computer hardware, technology products and tires. Cocaine arguably isn't a resource, unless you're making crack, but you get the idea. In case you're saying "ya but", here are some alternatives you may not be aware of... and might want to consider learning more about.
1. BioIsoprene - Genencor's synthetic rubber has been used by Goodyear since 2009 to produce tires that last longer than conventional tires which are made largely from oil. This soy based compound can be used in everything from diapers to feminine hygiene products. Where's it at?
2. HDPE Plastic Lumber - Made 100% from recycled plastic,10lbs of this stuff recycles 400+ milk jugs and it looks as good in year 10 as it did the day you bought it. So why do we continue to predominantly use trees for construction material?
3. Gold - According to a 1924 experiment by Professor Hantaro Nagaoka, we can manufacture the stuff through transmutation using nuclear energy to strike out a single proton. The hidden incentive behind 30 countries building over 400 nuclear reactors since the 50's?
So why do we still continue to destroy ancient cultures in the effort to consume these natural resources? 2 words... Ignorance & Greed.
